'I am a Canadian abstract painter based out of Vancouver, BC. I am self-taught, and initially learned to paint as an escape from illness; in the process, I discovered an overwhelming passion and appreciation for artistic expression. I am a native of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, and a long-time resident of Paris, France, my paintings reflect my life journey from island to urban city, to mountainous terrain. Through vivid colours and knife strokes, I hope to celebrate the world and my experiences that both shape and inspire me as an artist.

I proudly donate half of all profits to the BC Cancer Foundation. To learn more about the Foundation, or donate yourself, please visit: www.bccancerfoundation.com'

Asmin Pulas

'Asmin Pulas, an Armenian artist from Turkey, blends the untamed beauty of nature with the vibrant tapestry of human emotions. Her work reflects the profound interplay between the external world and her inner self. Asmin's artistic journey began at the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts (2011-2013), where she honed her skills in technical drawing.
The critical moment in Asmin's life came when she embraced the challenges of adapting to a new country.

This transformative experience inspired "Roots in Transition," a collection of evocative art pieces exploring the daily life of a young woman navigating a foreign land. Each piece in the exhibition serves as a visual diary, capturing Asmin's emotional landscape as she grapples with change. Her use of colours, textures, and forms mirrors the diverse emotions encountered – from excitement to nostalgia. Asmin's art allows viewers to empathize with universal themes of adaptation, resilience, and the delicate dance between nature and human emotion.'

FEATURED ARTIST: Ale Silva

'Resilience of the Forgotten'

'Ale Silva is a Vancouver-based artist originally from Chile, where she began drawing at the young age of two. Drawing and painting have served as her expressive outlet throughout her life, from moments of rebellion to love, and they continue to be vital parts of her journey. Specializing in acrylic painting, Ale is deeply fascinated by surrealism. Her artwork frequently explores themes of identity, social commentary, and the subtle intricacies of human emotions. She consistently pushes the boundaries of her craft by experimenting with different techniques and mediums.

Inspired by nature and emotions, Ale has created a captivating series of landscapes titled "Resilience of the Forgotten." These artworks encapsulate the concept that forgotten elements, and even dormant thoughts, possess the ability to transcend the passage of time through adaptation and evolution. Something left behind has the potential to transform into a wellspring of beauty and inspiration for others.

Ale's series is a testament to the indomitable spirit of those who have been overlooked, shedding light on their inherent resilience. Through her evocative creations, she illuminates the enduring strength found within the forgotten.'

FEATURED ARTIST:
Rebekah Joy Plett

'Rebekah Plett’s work is bold. Her dynamic brushstrokes call us closer, offering an intimate look as colour entangles colour, dipping into the very sense of being alive. Her use of sheer washes and sumptuously thick paint creates visual alchemy.

Her pieces do not mince emotions. They shrug off the societal expectations to be smaller, quieter. Her colours speak to our deepest instincts, urging us to look at where we have muted ourselves, and to breathe into those parts that want to be free.'

Congratulations to artist Tannis Seufert!
'Indigo Wave' is going to her new home in Belcarra, BC!

' The Earth has endured many shifts and changes and is wise to its inhabitants and its complex living light anatomy. The deep rich indigo Blues travel in depth and dimension throughout the surface of this piece, creating powerful suggestive crystalline landscapes on the horizontal and striking figures on the vertical point of view. In the evening, it carries a strong presence with its inset LED lighting, illuminating the crystals holding a captivating energy in your space. It's sure to be a focal point in any room.'

'She loves blending fictional, fantasy, and surreal elements with detailed and precise designs. While she enjoys capturing the real world with great detail, she also likes to incorporate vibrant colours and imaginative scenes into her work. This combination allows her to create a familiar yet fantastical world.

But the most important source of inspiration for the artist is the city where she was born: Shiraz. Known as the birthplace of the greatest Iranian poets, Shiraz is celebrated for its stunning and prolific architectural works featuring intricate mirror work and coloured glass. One of the city's most notable buildings is the Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, which uses stained glass windows to transform sunlight into thousands of mesmerizing fragments of color, creating an eternal and spiritual atmosphere.'

'Heart of Fire and Ashes'

'Impactful, evocative art emerges as an expression deep within the Spirit of an Artist. Inner Worlds: Outer Landscapes, 2024 by Tannis Seufert, reflects the importance of cultivating a strong connection of value to yourself in conjunction with the natural world.

She brings a spectrum of vibrant, saturated colour via her primary medium of Resin. Incorporating crystals and lighting into her 3D custom hardwood frames, creates the feeling of a living environment and an illuminating texture to her work. She feels it is her responsibility to listen to her medium as to what wants to be emerge and be conveyed to the viewer from the intangible, subtle worlds.'

HxBIA Call for Artists, Muralists and Community Organizations

The catchment area for Hastings Crossing BIA is unique in that it occupies a large portion of the DTES and is a literal and metaphorical crossroads of the city. Hastings Street can be a vibrant, active street and its many crossroads provide thoroughfares for pedestrians traveling to and from Gastown and Chinatown.

We recognize the need for a more strategic approach to placemaking in HxBIA, and have designed our goals for this project specifically to be strategic and proactive:

Fill empty storefronts through pop-up events, installation of art, and beautification of the area. This includes locations of chronic graffiti and blocks with chronically vacant storefronts.

Enhance the perception of safety and welcomeness in HxBIA.

Provide economic opportunities for local residents, artists, and organizations to participate in placemaking in HxBIA, including those from the urban Indigenous community.

Provide a better experience when visiting HxBIA through enhanced wayfinding, lighting, and activity in the area.

Proposed activities for this initiative include, but are not limited to:

Murals

Vinyl window art/installations

Other creative installations on chain-link fencing or other under utilized surfaces

Vacant storefront activations (including local art and lighting installations)

Laneway or plaza activations (including ones that celebrate and highlight local world-class graffiti)

Vacant storefront pop-up events/markets

Please complete this form if you are interested in being a part of this work and/or have a creative idea for community-driven placemaking in HxBIA!

Hello Gallery Angels,

I hope you are able to enjoy this summer! We are still working on raising funds to cover the repairs, replacements and additional scissor security gates.

Thank you to all of you that have donated and we are hoping that you could kindly share our Go Fund Me fundraiser with your networks and on your platforms to help us get the word out. November will marks 1 year since the incident and sadly we are nowhere near our goal.

We also wanted to let you know that we are looking at other creative ways to raise the funds such as renting out our beautiful gallery as a venue. He have hosted Cocktail Parties, Christmas & Birthday Parties, workshops, University Faculty breakout sessions, Celebration of Life, wedding proposals and so much more. If you are looking for a venue whether it is personal or for your company, please keep The Gallery George in mind. Shoot us an email to request the venue package at [email protected]

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you to all of you that attended last night! It was a very interesting artist talk exploring the hidden beauty of nature through photo artist Gunilla Öberg's lens.

Thank you to host Marco Silva for an insightful conversation on her unique vision of light, darkness, and decomposition in small-scale objects. We learned of her creative process and captivating perspective on the circularity of life.
