The elections for Faculty specific student representatives to the UBC Vancouver Senate are now OPEN! The applications are being accepted until 4 pm on February 10, 2023. As a student senate representative, you represent ALL of the students in your faculty and their voices on the UBC Vancouver Senate. In this position, you participate in monthly meetings generally on the second Wednesday of every month and vote on topics such as policy making, program approvals, academic agenda, awards approvals etc. You are also a part of the student caucus which meets twice a month during the same week as the senate meeting. This is an immensely supportive group and a great way to meet undergraduate students in other faculties! 🙂
As a senator, you are given the opportunity to sit on a minimum of two committees such as Appeals for academic standing, Awards, Research and Scholarship, Tributes etc. Each of these committees sets its own meetings and usually meets once a month. These provide great opportunities for networking with faculty senate members and give you an opportunity to understand how each committee works.
If you would like to make a difference at the core of policy-making at the university, then this position is for you!
If you have any other questions please feel free to reach out to Kanika Khosla via Facebook!
