Pacific Theatre
Creating theatre that matters at 12th and Hemlock. https://www.pacifictheatre.org
To open our season we are featuring Pastiche art by Brent Unrau in our lobby🎨🖌
Pastiche Art was born out of Brent’s love for old wood window frames (he views them as works of art in themselves, with their own hidden stories to tell), and the wide world of graphic, visual art. He describes the process as a matchmaking dance that finds and marries wood window frames with evocative, complementary prints. Focused care is given to bring out and maintain the distinct character of each frame while at the same time adapting it to a particular work of art. The end result is a unique “pastiche” (a work of art combined from various sources).
If you are interested in purchasing any of the pieces during your visit you can visit our box office for more information✨

About the show:
Mary Swanson arrives in Middletown ready to start her family in a normal suburb. But her new neighbours see the surreal in the status quo and the outer bounds of the universe in their local garden patch. As Mary connects to her community via the magic and tragedy of ordinary experiences, Middletown dives into the big questions: what are beginnings? How should we end? And how are we supposed to deal with all the stuff in between?

This year we wanted to feature some of our Box Office and Front of House Managers who you will be meeting through our season! Our staff and volunteers are such an integral part of your experience at PT and we could not run the show without them✨ Say hello!
This season you will be meeting: Alina Quarin (Our Office Manager), Ashley Chodat, Donna Wu, Holly Lam, Kat Morrow, Katrina Robinson, Riaan Smit, Scott Boyce🎊
We know a new year is starting around PT when our season apprentice arrives. Cassie Unger started with us yesterday and is already fitting right in. She shared a few thoughts with us about what she’s looking forward to this year:
What are you looking forward to most about the apprenticeship?
I'm really looking forward to getting a front-row seat to the production of this season's shows and connecting with all the amazing artists. I am also excited to produce my own final project at the end of the apprenticeship!
Could you share a piece of theatre that moved you?
I saw a play called "Lia and Dor" at the Vancouver Fringe last year. It was a two person production rooted in a beautiful family history and Romanian folklore. I was transfixed from the first moment -- It felt both old, in the ancient sense of lore and story, and so new in its use of movement and the actors' presence onstage. It was a wonderful example of a story that could only exist through the medium of theatre.
Is there a fictional place you’d like to visit?
One of my favourite books is "The Starless Sea," by Erin Morgenstern, much of which takes place in a magic library with infinite, amazing rooms, a sentient kitchen, and stories as far as the eye can see. I would love to find myself there and get a little lost.
What’s one of your non-theatrical specialties?
I've become quite keen on indoor plants. It started out innocently enough -- now I'm just sneaking in as many as I can and seeing whether my husband will notice. My dream is to one day have a little indoor jungle!
Say hello to the creative team of Middletown, we are thrilled to have such incredible designers, directors and stage managers as part of this production. Middletown is only 8 days away from its first preview performance where you can experience the work of this creative team and be transported to the little town of Middletown✨
To purchase tickets you can visit our website www.pacifictheatre.org 🎫
We’re thrilled to have been named one of the Vancouver Sun’s 5 Must See Plays this fall, read on to know more about Jerry Wasserman's thoughts about Middletown✨
"A few years ago, I reviewed playwright Will Eno’s Wakey, Wakey. My title: “In the Midst of Death, There Is Life.” Eno’s stream-of-consciousness existentialism is unique in the American theatre. In Middletown, he riffs on Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, as 13 occupants of a small community brood over life and death, happiness and misery, often in the same sentence. Provocative, funny, and highly recommended. Produced by Sticks and Stones Theatre."

Sticks and Stones theatre is led by Zac Scott, producer and actor in Middletown. He is a major reason this big-dream project is even happening. Read on to learn more about Zac and Sticks and Stones✨
“I remember the first time I read Middletown by Will Eno about five years ago, I quite literally both laughed and cried throughout, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it, for days and days afterward, I couldn't shake it. I felt so strongly that this show was something that people should experience, it’s food for the soul. After years of trying, we at Sticks and Stones are so beyond thrilled to finally have a home at Pacific Theatre to produce this beautiful show, and we are so excited to share it with a Vancouver audience.” - Zac Scott
About Sticks and Stones: “In 2016 a bunch of recent theatre school grads wanted to create some work for themselves, so they started Sticks and Stones Theatre. They rehearsed in living rooms and office spaces, and beg, stole and borrowed almost everything on the stage. They are built on the idea that the best way to learn to do something is by doing it, and that is how they approach every production they tackle🎭
Zac Scott is an actor, sound designer and producer, and is the general manager and one of the founders of Sticks and Stones Theatre. Select past acting credits include Body Awareness (Mitch and Murray Productions), Armstrong’s War (Western Canada Theatre), Hidden (Itsazoo Productions), The Out Vigil (Twenty Something Theatre), This is War (Rumble Theatre) The Aliens, This Is Our Youth, The Open House (Sticks and Stones Theatre). Zac is a graduate of Studio 5✨
We are excited to bring back our Gift-A-Seat! fundraising campaign. Each year, we offer hundreds of tickets to community guests in partnership with local service organizations and thousands of accessible, $20 tickets to students, seniors, community members on a fixed income, working artists, and anyone else who wants to see a Pacific show and might not be able to otherwise. Your donation goes directly to underwriting the cost of these tickets🎫
Help us to raise $10,000.00 toward this goal! $40 covers one full-priced ticket, and $100 covers the difference between four accessible tickets. $400 buys a block of ten tickets! Regardless of the amount raised by this campaign, we will continue to offer this low-barrier access to see our shows. You can donate today through our website www.pacifictheatre.org✨

Some big news: It is with a mix of emotions we share that PT’s Executive Director is moving on from Pacific Theatre, having accepted the role of Managing Director of the Vancouver Writers Fest. Her last day with PT will be opening night of Middletown on September 20th. Cue the tears!
Jenn joined PT in March 2020, an extremely challenging time to enter the performing arts sector. Despite the choppy waters, Jenn has ably helped steer the company and has been a stabilizing force for PT. She has consistently gone above and beyond, lending her many talents to the company.
PT’s board chair, Lilac Bosma, says “I am grateful for these years of working with Jenn Milley. She has brought her diligence, her creativity, her integrity and her whimsy to every aspect of her role. We will miss her deeply, but I am excited for her to take this next step!”
Jenn has co-led the company with Artistic Director Kaitlin Williams. She says, “It is difficult to imagine PT without Jenn, which is a testament to what a force of nature she is. I am grateful for her compassionate, creative, brave leadership these past few years, and I am grateful for her friendship. Words can’t capture how much I will miss working alongside her, but I look forward to cheering her on into this exciting next chapter.”
From Jenn: I’m so grateful for the way in which PT welcomed me into the fold from day one, and the kindness everyone -- staff, board, artists, and patrons -- showed me as I learned the ways of the theatre universe. Kaitlin has been a true friend and compatriot as we’ve co-led this team, and I consistently brag about the tenacity and talent of this community (and will continue to do so!) I am excited for this next adventure, but sad to be leaving the day-to-day of this quirky, wonderful place. Please excuse me while I go bake my feelings into more treats for the staff🥹
Drop some love in the comments for Jenn as we wish her well on her next adventure

Creating Theatre That Matters Since 1984
Pacific Theatre exists to delight, provoke, and stimulate dialogue by producing theatre that rigorously explores the spiritual aspects of the human experience. Since 1984, Pacific Theatre has produced 120 professional mainstage productions, ranging from established works to original world premieres.
A community-minded professional theatre, Pacific Theatre is committed to foster new work and established plays, develop emerging artists, create an artistic home for established practitioners, and engage the community at large.
HISTORY: Pacific Theatre was founded in 1984 by a group of like-minded actors who wanted to produce non-propagandist professional theatre that had meaning to them as Christians. Particularly, this involves questions of hope, faith, redemption, and forgiveness. After ten years of creating new works, producing existing plays, and touring around the Lower Mainland, Pacific Theatre was invited to its current home in the Chalmer’s Heritage Building at 12th and Hemlock.
Each season at Pacific Theatre is made up of a rich array of critically-acclaimed theatre, including in-house productions, Guest Productions, and smaller “Add On” events, as well as projects created by the company’s Season Apprentices.
