We added another foot to the Moonlight family this morning. 🚼 Thank you in advance for the well wishes and sorry that we will be a bit short staffed for a week or two. 😊

I was out of commission for 24 hrs with gastroenteritis 🤮. A few things that came to mind for taking care of our pets if they are having similar issues.

🌟 Visit a vet if the duration and severity is concerning. Vomiting and diarrhea are symptoms for a lot of serious issues. We have a blog on it that might be useful to any pet parent.
🌟 If your dog is on home care for just a minor incident, I found that the nausea and discomfort was the toughest part. Give your pet time to recover
🌟 Clean 🧼 💩 and vomit with 🧤 and alcohol as some diseases which are viral, protozoal can be zoonotic meaning it can transfer to humans.
🌟 Water is always necessary to prevent dehydration but some dogs and cats prefer bone broth during this time.
🌟 Don’t try to get your pet to eat too quickly (I.e the next meal) unless the pet is looking for food and go with bland food. Try feeding after 12 hours.
🌟 Probiotics can help sort out your pet’s gastrointestinal issues or are really helpful if they are taking antibiotics.
🌟 Let them recover by sleeping and take your time with them.

Mood for today is dragging ass. The whole family has been home sick for over a week with the flu and we have now recovered. It led me to thinking about how lucky we are to have reliable coworkers to cover for us. For most small businesses, being sick means losing income for a week or if customers are too inconvenienced, forever. That means falling behind on commercial rents or even living costs. Find a small business you love (a hairdresser, laundromat, pet store 😉) and share the love with them. It means the world to us!

It is common now to hear people at dog parks recommend CBD if your dog has arthritis, joint pain, seizures, cancer or separation anxiety-. But, did you know that your vet in Canada cannot prescribe CBD for pets?

Mad Cow Disease was in the news in January and a customer asked if it can affect dogs and we also wondered about cats.

For dogs, the answer is NO. For Cats, it is YES. 😢

Essentially, mad cow disease happens when cows, which are herbivores, are fed feed containing meat or meat byproducts from other dead cows or ruminants. The disease is fatal with no cure and can affect ruminants including deer and elk in the form of Chronic Wasting Disease. This is why Venison products have been hard to obtain for customers trying an elimination diet.

Cooking does not resolve this so humans can also get the disease and it is fatal. See our blog for more info.
