In the chaos of this week I haven’t posted our hours for the long weekend. We’ll be closed Sunday to Tuesday, then back open as usual on Wednesday September 4th.
Big shipment of quilting cottons arrived from yesterday, so look for those coming next week. And three skids(!) of fabric from are on the way, all brand new (no restocks). 🤳📦

Thanks to everyone for your beautiful comments and messages. It was a bit of weight off our shoulders to share this terrible news with you yesterday. We’ve known for a little while things were headed in this direction and keeping it bottled up wasn’t great for our physical and mental health.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help (grants, gofundme etc), and the answer in this regard is nothing. We’ve been trying behind the scenes for years to avoid it, but Dressew in its current form is lost. That being said, please come and shop! We would love to see you, and I can’t take all the zippers and buttons home with me!

Many of you have called for the CoV to help, or blamed them in part. They cannot help us. The vandalism, graffiti, crime and our neighbourhood falling apart around us are a reason we won’t relocate in downtown Vancouver, but not the reason we are closing. These issues are not limited to our neighbourhood or city.

I promise to share the entire story when I can. Many have asked when we will be closing - we won’t know until the building is sold. We will definitely keep you up to date on that.

There’s no easy way to say it, so I’ll just say it. Due to a variety of circumstances beyond our control, we are no longer able to operate Dressew as in the past. We will be selling our building on West Hastings St as well as our warehouses and Dressew will eventually be closing. These past few years have been a struggle for every small business and we are no exception. We are heartbroken, angry and just numb that it has come to this.

But we’re not closing yet!

For now it will be business as usual for the most part, and we may still be around for years to come - we just don’t know. We will still be receiving shipments of new fabric and notions until further notice. We still have lots of product in our warehouses to sell. Sadly, this will be our last year for Halloween costumes and accessories.

We hope to reopen in the future, in a different form and space. Thank you for supporting us since 1961, and we ask for your understanding of our situation and kindness to our staff.
