It’s time to dive into a September Sunday Staff Series. Meet one of our servers, Danielle Isaac. 👋

Danielle Isaac was raised in Abbotsford, but resides now in Vancouver, B.C. She was hired as a server, works as a cocktailer on occasion and has exuded an immense amount of positive energy to Joe Fortes from the moment she was hired in the Fall of 2022. 🥰

A Joe’s highlight for Danielle was New Year’s Eve. 🎊 She says, “The restaurant was buzzing with live music, a packed dance floor, and a lovely atmosphere. Clock struck midnight, Prosecco flowed and confetti cannons erupted, creating a truly unforgettable celebration.” 🥂 What really stands out to Danielle though are the countless times she’s had the pleasure of enchanting guests from all around the world. 🌎 She mentions that these unforgettable experiences are the driving force behind why she loves her job. ❤️

Joe Fortes is a special place and Danielle says, “It is incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that takes such pride in their work.” Describing our restaurant and the hardworking staff as a well-oiled machine seamlessly working together to create something magical. ✨

A few of Danielle’s hobbies outside of work include walking her dog 🐶, cozying up with her cat 🐱, galavanting through the North Shore 🏔️ and shaking it off to the music of Taylor Swift 🎶. This Swiftie is easily intrigued by a good murder mystery 🫣, but also likes keeping her hands busy with sewing and crafts 🧵🪡 , often creating gifts for family, especially her two-year-old nephew.

FUN FACT: Before entering the restaurant industry Danielle worked as a hairdresser. She can also play 3 songs on the ukulele and if you invite her to the beach, her hula hoop is coming too!

Danielle’s openness to improve and the way she executes fine dining service with a smile, has allowed her to grow and become a superb server. Her diligence is outstanding, her kindness is striking and it is acknowledged by everyone as she was deservingly awarded Employee of the Month for July!!!🥇 Let’s give it up for Danielle Isaac.👏💗

Sunday Staff Series, but Sibling Edition! Meet Aaliyah and Michael Meade. 👋

Aaliyah and Michael grew up in Langley, B.C. The two siblings started their Joe Fortes journey in Whistler of 2021. Michael was hired as a busser with absolutely zero restaurant experience and within 6 months he was running expo. Aaliyah paved the way first though and was hired as a hostess a month prior. Both were transferred to Vancouver when they moved back to the city. They promised to keep the sibling fights to a respectable level, which they did and still continue to do. 🤭

One of Michael’s favourite memories at Joe’s was his first time bartending. It came as a surprise and the bar’s espresso machine broke on shift. A colleague said “The espresso machine is broken, but my friend is not.” All in all, he crushed it! 👏 As for memorable guests, Michael is still patiently waiting for the day comes back so he can meet him. 😉 On the other hand, Aaliyah was fangirling real hard when she met . ⭐️ Her only regret was not asking for his autograph, which of course Michael does not let her forget.

Aaliyah adores working at Joe Fortes for many reasons. She has had a running game going with a majority of the bar team, she claims to be winning and that’s all you need to know. 😜 She also says, “The management team has made me feel listened to and safe, the chefs are always super nice to me and I’ve made friends with a lot of people here. I’m also lucky that I get to work with my brother, he’s my least favourite best friend.” (AW 🥰)

Outside of work Aaliyah loves arts and crafts 🖼️, books 📚 and video games 🎮. Michael enjoys rock climbing 🧗‍♂️, playing bass guitar 🎸, riding his motorcycle 🏍️ and FUN FACT he can speak German. 🤯

Aaliyah will be leaving soon to further pursue her education and she will surely be missed 🎓, while Michael continues to accelerate his bartending skills and knowledge. 🥃 Combine Aaliyah’s bubbly, kind and ever-so-friendly personality with Michael’s dedication and grit, it makes for an extraordinary Brother and Sister Duo that we are grateful to have together at Joe Fortes while we can! ❤️

Our Sunday Staff Series is up and ready. Meet our lovely Hostess, Nicole Rogers. 👋

Our sweet Hostess, Nicole, is the familiar and smiling face you will be greeted with at our front desk! 😊 She grew up in Windsor, Ontario and joined the Joe Fortes family in May of 2019.

A favourite memory she can remember like it was yesterday happened on Boxing Day of 2019. Nicole was running the book and leading the Guest Services team through a rare night where it was super busy, but everything was working out perfectly and the energy was right in the room. She says, “We filled the restaurant completely and I remember feeling so proud.“ 👏🥲

We asked Nicole why she loves working at Joe’s and she said, “It’s an institution! There’s so much history and so many people in Vancouver (and around the world) have special memories at our restaurant. It makes me feel grateful to be a part of that. And I really appreciate my coworkers. We all work hard and really feel a shared sense of accomplishment after every successful service.” 🥰 As for memorable famous guests, Kurt Russell and are the winners for Nicole, “His hair looked amazing in real life,” she says. ⭐️

Outside of work, Nicole loves travelling and has done a few multi-month backpacking trips across the world. 🌍 When she’s in Vancouver, you can find her spending a lot of time outside making the most out of our beautiful city. 🌆 She also enjoys biking 🚴‍♀️, hiking 🥾 and swimming in the ocean. 🌊 FUN FACT: Nicole has loved reading ever since she was a kid and with the amount of time she had off last year, she accomplished reading 100 books! 📚🤯

Without a doubt, Nicole is an exceptional part of our Guest Services team, a Hostess who is driven to accommodate your requests and manage reservations. She’s brilliantly admirable, friendly and her kindness goes a long way with all of our guests. From the start, you will realize that you are well taken care of as she gives you a warm welcome. Sunday Staff Series is a go! We are pleased to introduce our Sous Chef, Tim Nguyen. 👋

Chef Tim began working at Joe Fortes in 2014 as a line cook 🤯 and recently upgraded to a well-deserved promotion as Sous Chef! ⭐️ He was born in Ottawa, but grew up in Burnaby and has had experience working in a variety of different restaurants across British Columbia. His impressive resume includes Miku, Marutama Ramen, Longtail Kitchen, Pourhouse, Bruno and Cask.

The memories of working during the busy Summer months standout as Chef’s most favourable moments. “There are not a lot of other restaurants that can provide such a valuable experience,” he says. Chef Tim’s most memorable famous guest is 🤩, he even prepared his Iceberg Wedge!

Chef really does love the extraordinary dynamic at Joe’s as he says, “I can put a smile on hundreds of guests daily just by cooking them great food. And of course, the Joe Fortes family is something special as well, no matter where you go after, you are still part of the family.” ❤️

Chef Tim’s hobbies and interests outside of work are trying out the latest restaurants 🍽️, reading manga 📚, watching stand up comedy 😆, fantasy basketball 🏀 and of course the most rewarding of them all, raising his little family. ☺️ He also has a personal goal of losing his dad bod. 💪🏼

FUN FACT: Chef loves tattoos, “My first one was my entire torso. I want to be covered from my neck to my toes.” 🐉

A few go-to menu items for Chef would be the Bone-In Rib Steak 🥩 and any seafood 🦞, especially Scallops with Provençal sauce! Add in one of our curated cocktails and you’ve got yourself a yummy meal.🍹

Dedicated to his craft and desire to create a delicious dining experience like no other. You will certainly see his passion shine through in every dish. It is with hard work and determination that landed him his promotion and we couldn’t be any prouder. Congratulations, Sous Chef Tim! 👨‍🍳
