In their second and third program terms, Master of Digital Media students are assigned to teams to work on industry-sponsored projects to create innovative digital products that support existing projects or provide solutions to problems within the industry. Vestibular Rehab - VR Therapy
Creating digital solutions to healthcare challenges is what our Master of Digital Media students do best! Team Dazzle is working with Digital Lab at BC Children's Hospital to implement a VR solution that pushes past the limitations of traditional therapy methods. Vestibular disorders are medical conditions that affect the vestibular system and can be caused by a variety of issues including infection, inner ear problem or brain injuries. Part of the simulation the team is creating puts patients with vestibular disorders in scenarios where their symptoms are most likely to be induced, for example, being inside a car and going from a dark tunnel into a bright outdoor environment with sun rays coming through. By experiencing these environments in controlled dosages, the aim is to build up their resistance and give them more control of their symptoms in the long run.
