As you may have seen from our Instagram posts - Umaluma is now officially closed. We had a great finish to the year (2021) and were humbled by all the kind words of appreciation for what we created - expansion of the premium gelato category in the non-dairy, plant-based world we prefer to live in.

This is our last week of operations as we know it. Thank you dear wholesale and retail customers for your business and loving support. We really enjoyed serving you and delighting many of you with our yummy plant-based gelato.
Who knows, we may see you again in another shape or form.
Meanwhile, we have lots of gelato left to sell. Check out our available flavours online and pre order and pay for pick up or just come in to the store to select your favs. Whole Foods, Greens, Pomme and other still have stock while supplies last.

Feeling nostalgia for the “good old days”
In 2017 Myself, Derek Rohde and Andy Kieselbach ventured into the Game of Gelato and launched Umaluma. The vision was and still remains to produce an ultra premium plant-based gelato without compromising on quality of ingredients or on delighting customers with a product that was simply healthy and yummy and better for Mother Earth.
As we wind down for good this month, I am reflecting on the experience of running a small business in this city at this time. I am forever grateful and humbled by the power of community and the sense of being seen and appreciated.
With the start of the New Year, I am feeling hopeful that 2022 will see the tail end of this global pandemic and the rise of better times for small businesses.
To all you struggling business owners: hang in there. Stay focused and don’t hold on too tightly. Cultivate gratitude and support each other as best you can.

Dear family and friends, it is with sadness and some degree of hope that we are announcing the winding down of Umaluma by December 31st of this year.
We have gone through some very bumpy times this past two years, but have managed to stand out as one of the top gelato shops in the city. Looking back at this image from when we launched in 2017- crowds have diminished for various reasons including the Pandemic. But the business has so much potential - it just needs some new blood to take it forward.
There is hope because Umaluma is looking for a new owner. This is a turn-key opportunity for the right investor to take over operations and take the business to the next level

If no buyers come forward, we will be liquidating our equipment and other assets starting in the next couple weeks.

Dear friends, Its been a challenging year with Covid 19 cutting into our business and a terrible summer with our main freezer getting "knocked out" for two months during the busiest time of year. Its time to reach out to the community to enlist your support.
Umaluma still has some of the best gelato you can find anywhere. We have a great team and passion for what we do. I am reaching out to ask your help to find a business partner and investor to become part of our team. We are looking for someone who is interested in getting a share of the company in exchange for investment and hands on operations. Ideally someone who loves the food industry and who has experience running a business successfully.

After nearly two months without our main freezer, we are finally back on track
Not much excitement in this pic, but for us it’s a real smiley face. Our building failed to provide adequate ventilation for our compressor which resulted in failure and loss of all our stock. We have been working at 25% capacity and using a small chest freezer since end of June.

Yuzu Lemon Pie- has become very popular this summer. It has a very balanced profile of tangy, sweet and a texture that is like biting in to a fresh baked pie - with a crumbly lemon tartiness. We make the gluten free pie bits with oats and maple syrup and vegan butter. The Yuzu lemon sauce is made from scratch with love
