Golden Age Collectables
Golden Age is one of the best-known comic shops in Vancouver, with comic books old and new, as well as graphic novels, toys, manga, sports cards, and more!
Golden Age Collectables was created by Patrick Shaughnessy in 1974. Though its roots were laid in New Westminster, the store has been located in the heart of downtown Vancouver for over 3 decades. Over the years, while the comic industry has seen many highs and lows, Golden Age has remained a premier location for newsstand comics, back issues, and perhaps most importantly – rare books. The Golden
One of the greatest comic books about comic books is back in the shop!
UNDERSTANDING COMICS by SCOTT MCCLOUD is a masterpiece on what makes the art of graphic narratives so unique and amazing!
If you’ve ever wanted to have a greater comprehension of comic books and what makes them so special, this is THE book to read. It’s part how-to, part history-lesson, and full of interesting ways to consider the comic page that’ll change how you think about storytelling!
Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read!
-Hank
Now it’s time for me to type those four sweet words I know you’ve all wanted to read…
MISTER SPARKLE FUNKO POP!
Easily one of the greatest alternate depictions of Homer!

So how do I start to unpack the awesomeness of yesterday…???
Gabriel Luna was in the shop, and was an extremely endearing and entertaining guest!
Seriously, we’ve had some incredible signings and meet-&-greets here at Golden Age, and this was for sure another one of the big ones!
Big thanks go out to our hardworking team here in the shop; we even had a couple of extra folks helping out and man, it was appreciated!
A huge thanks goes to everybody who came down and waited in line!! Pat’s always saying that our customers are the best in the world, and every time we have an event like this, we all get to see just how right he is. Polite, cool, kind… Just a great assembly of really excellent folks!!
And of course my biggest thanks go to the hero of the hour, Gabriel! The guy was so charming and personable, and it was so cool to see how much energy he put into every interaction, making sure that each fan got to feel like they got an authentic connection, as well as plenty of autographs and photos! And the stories he had to tell - it was a real blast!!!
Ha, and when you’re looking at the photos, you’ll see the part of the evening where Gabriel answered the shop phone and took a special order from somebody who thought they were just talking to some regular GAC staff-member! 😛
It was a real privilege of mine to get to host an event of this magnitude, that put so many smiles on so many faces. I’m exhausted, but I still can’t wait for our next big event!

Just an hour and a half now until GABRIEL LUNA is here at Golden Age!!!
I can hardly believe it myself, but it's happening for real!!!
-Hank
GABRIEL LUNA is here today!
Superstar actor Gabriel Luna is hanging out here at Golden Age today, from 3PM to 6PM!
World renown as a performer, he's perhaps best known around the comic shop for portraying ROBBIE REYES, the GHOST RIDER on AGENTS OF SHIELD, as well as the REV-9 in TERMINATOR: DARK FATE! And of course he’s here in town filming THE LAST OF US as the fan-favourite character TOMMY!
He is… GABRIEL LUNA!
And he’ll be here at the shop today, SATURDAY, APRIL 6TH, from 3PM to 6PM!
I’ll be here too, but I’m always in at those times, so that’s not really quite as exciting. But I’ll still be here, and I’ll be damn excited!!
-Hank
GODZILLA ----- the mightiest kaiju of them all!!

I cannot believe that we're gonna have this guy in the shop next Saturday!!!
I'm talking about Gabriel Luna, the man who brought Robbie Reyes to life on AGENTS OF SHIELD!
Robbie was created by one of my favourite weirdo indie comic makers, , who has made some absolutely insane comics I still have on my bookshelf to this day!! Anybody who’s read MBQ knows what I’m talking about!!!!
It’s gonna be an awesome Saturday signing - I was hoping we’d get to have the Ghost Rider hellcar in the shop, but Pat says we don’t have room to fit in the back of the shop…
-Hank
Celebrate Easter, Mallrats style.
With much love to Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes. And a small amount of love to the creep with the long ears.

GABRIEL LUNA is coming to GOLDEN AGE COLLECTABLES!
Gabriel Luna is a world renown actor, famous for roles in shows like THE LAST OF US, MATADOR, and AGENTS OF SHIELD, and films such as TRANSPECOS, GRAVY, and TERMINATOR: DARK FATE.
That means he’s been both a Ghost Rider AND a Terminator, and now… he’s going to be here, at Golden Age Collectables in Vancouver, hanging out and signing autographs!! Next Saturday - April 6th!
As you can tell by my only giving you a week’s notice, this a pretty impromptu meet & greet, but you can still expect that it’s gonna be a crazy awesome event, as ours always are!!!
And as always, there’ll be no charge for admission to this signing! We’re all just happy to facilitate meetings between fans and stars!!
It should be a really terrific event - I hope I’ll see you here for it! You know a big Ghost Rider fan like me is gonna be going crazy for this one!!!

ASON VOORHEES and LORD HUMUNGUS as FUNKO POPS!
I figure these guys would get along great, right?
“I love your mask!”
“I love YOUR mask!”
“Isn’t it awesome to wear it while killing folks?”
“Oh dude, that’s the best!”
“Kinda rough on the peripheral view.”
“Oh yeah, for sure. But still, totally worth it.”
“Oh, totally worth it for sure!”
Best buddies! And I bet neither one of them has ever actually watched a game of hockey.

?
On a recent trip through the Savage Zone I encountered the infamously untouchable member of the X-Men… ROGUE!
This is a PVC statue is based on her famous Savage Land storyline, in which the power-absorbing mutant found herself stranded with Magneto in the strange and prehistoric Savage Land. She stands on a base made from rocks, with a crude stone spear in her hand!
With the new X-Men animated series, Rogue’s been back in the spotlight again, and I gotta say, it’s great to have her back!
-Hank
45 but who's counting?
Ernie Hudson is Ahhhhh-MAZing!
"You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel like seeing a list of new comics?' Well, do ya, punk?"
That's right it's THE NEW COMIC LIST for APRIL 3, 2024.
Bask in it. Fear it. Love it.
-Hank
Hey, does anybody remember SPACE GOOFS? I got the Iggy Pop theme song stuck in my head the other day, and then had to go watch a couple of episodes and... it's still pretty great.
I'm a real sucker for that late 90's hand-drawn animation, it's for sure still in the gross-and-weird era of cartoons!
Do you remember this show? The awesome song that went with it?
"La la la la la la la la la we like monster men"
-Hank
We got them EASTER WEEKEND HOLIDAY HOURS!!!
Basically, they're our usual hours. Nothing changes. EVEN THE COMING OF THE SON OF GOD CANNOT MAKE US CHANGE THE CONSISTENCY OF OUR HOURLY SCHEDULE.
We don't take no crap from no bunnies either.
Actually, I really like bunnies. How could you not? They're adorable!
Anyway, even if I don't see you, or you don't celebrate, or whatever happens, I hope you have a great weekend and get to eat something that makes you happy!!
-Hank
It’s RING SCATTER SONIC THE FUNKO POP, which is just really fun to yell at people.
Ringer Scatter Sonic is also the name of one of my ska bands. We mostly just do covers of other bands’ covers of Louie Louie.
Anyway, I hadn’t seen any Sonic the Hedgehog Pops or cool toys recently, so when I had a chance to bring in some of these guys, I jumped at it as fast as… I dunno, as fast as a hedgehog, I guess.
I already got spikey blue hair and that doesn’t seem to make me any faster…
-Hank
THE HOLIDAY IS UPON US ONCE AGAIN.
GANDALF!
GODZILLA!
MECHAGODZILLA!
THE UNBEATABLE TEAM IS BACK!
Remember, back in the 90’s, when these guys teamed up to protect New York City from an army of radioactive 7/11 hotdogs being led by an angry clone of Henry Rollins?
Man, that was awesome.
I’m just glad to see these guys hanging out together again. Feels like old times.
-Hank
Everybody's talking about their favourite X-Men moments & characters, which got me thinking about back when Joe Mad was illustrating Gambit and man-oh-man did I ever think it was the coolest thing I'd seen.
And you know what? Looking at it again? It's still pretty damn cool.
Great art. Great character.
"Pick a card, mon ami!"
-Hank
One of my ALL-TIME-FAVOURITE comic book runs is back in print in a new graphic novel…
DAREDEVIL, featuring the first story by Brian Bendis, Alex Maleev, and Matt Hollingsworth!
I will swear up and down on a stack of bible’s straight from Hell’s Kitchen, that those issues are some of the best written, drawn, and coloured comics I’ve ever read. In terms of incredible narratives I’ve enjoyed, I’ll put these issues of DD up there with my favourite episodes of The Sopranos, or even my favourite films, like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs.
For me, these issues represent what I want from superhero comics. Grounded, character-driven stories, featuring spectacular acts of paranormal madness. To my mind, there’s literally no better work done with a mainstream superhero, in any medium.
I’ve been waiting a couple of years for these comics to come back out in a graphic novel I can recommend to folks, so seeing them again is like welcoming an old friend back into your life.
If you haven’t read ‘em, and you dig the stuff I enjoy, you should make some time to check out this book!!!

KIRIE from Junji Ito’s UZUMAKI!
Hauntingly weird! Weirdly haunting!
I mean, I don’t think this statue is literally haunted, but I could totally be wrong.
