Do you have lingering questions from practicum about issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion that have not been answered? Do you have questions on how to address these issues as you begin your teaching career? As you recall, Beth Applewhite, James Morton and Kenneth Headley were our keynote speakers at orientation last September. They would like to hear from you about your experiences this year! Pizza will be served! A CANDID CONVERSATION ABOUT EQUITY: LENSES AND MIRRORS Tuesday, July 19, 2022 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. | Scarfe 100 RSVP by July 17, 2022: https://teach.educ.ubc.ca/registration-a-candid-conversation-about-equity-20220719/ *** From the speaker panel: Our team advocates for honest discourse, diverse voice, and an increased awareness of dominant culture, and the need to face both explicit and implicit biases. We use our lived experiences to inform our practice and enlighten participants about the long-reaching effects of discrimination. Our presentations and workshops are explicit, thought provoking and interactive. We do not shame and blame; instead, we meet participants where they are at with compassion and understanding. We move beyond definitions and awareness to honest personal reflection and authentic personal goals. Our team creates bold and brave spaces for participants to reflect on their “blank” spots, share experiences and “try on” new perspectives. Two years after the murder of George Floyd and in this era of Truth and Reconciliation, good intentions are not good enough. We will look at intentional ways to use our power and privilege to uplift student voice and take meaningful action. Participant voice will be encouraged, appreciated, and respected. We look forward to wa
