The 2024 Paris Olympic Games are full of heritage.
The Olympic Torch Relay featured about 30 cultural and natural sites listed as UNESCO World Heritage sites. The flame will ended its journey in Paris on 26 July in the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage site, the Banks of the Seine.
Along the Seine are many historical masterpeices, such as the famous Pont-Neuf and Alexandre III bridges, Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Louvre Museum, and Eiffel Tower.
The game venues became the foreground to variouse historical city scapes and architecture, such as the beach volleyball court in front of the Eiffel Tower, or the equestrian arena on the grounds of the Château de Versailles.
While built heritage is obvious in the Paris Olympics Games, the intangible heritage that is the sports themselves, the people who compete in them, and the traditions that have been created over hundreds of years are prevalent. Socially, sports have also helped carry the torch of change when it comes it equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Summer in the city ❤️
On July 19th, VHF hosted our first Summer Storytelling event, sharing the fascinating story of how the former Henry Hudson ‘yellow school house’ was saved from demolition, relocated to North Vancouver and now houses the Squamish Language Nest for early childhood education in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim (Squamish language).
VHF raises our hands to our keynote speakers Samaya Jarday, Director of Ta na wa Ns7éyx̱nitm ta Snew̓íyelh (Language & Cultural Affairs) and Kaiya Williams, Head Teacher at Ta Tsíptspi7lhḵn for sharing their remarkable work. By experiencing language immersion in a home like setting, the 20+ babies who frequent the Nest with their families are on track to become the first mother-tongue speakers of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Sníchim in 90 years.
VHF also thanks Johnathon Strebly of Renewal Development and Cassidy vander Ros of Nickel Bros who were supporting speakers, sharing their perspectives on built heritage conservation and the logistics of moving the yellow school house over land and water to the North Shore.

A couple weekends ago we took a group of people for exclusive tours of the Vancouver Block - one of the most notable landmarks of the city's skyline. 🏙️
The Vancouver Block was built in the early 20th century on the highest point of land in downtown Vancouver. It is known for its Edwardian style and, of course, the large clock tower sitting on top of the building.
