IIndia in Vancouver - Consulate General of Indiain association with Chetna Association of Canada and Guru Ravidass Sabha, Burnaby organized an event on 27 November 2023 to celebrate the Constitution Day of India and the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The programme started with the welcome remarks by Consul General. Giani Harminder Singh, Head Granthi of Khalsa Diwan Society (KDS) Gurudwara Sahib, Vancouver led the prayers and spoke about the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. In his address Consul General Manish welcomed the guests and extended greetings on the occasion. He drew few parallels between the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and the spirit of the Constitution. Giving background of the Constitution Day, he also dwelled upon various provisions of the Constitution and lauded the contribution of the people who were behind the making of the Constitution and especially the role of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The Consulate invited Dr. Shinder Purewal, an ex-Citizenship Judge and Prof. of Political Science, Mr. Jai Birdi, General Secretary, Chetna Association of Canada and Adv. Loveleen Gill as speakers on the occasion, who spoke on various aspects of the Constitution and its continued journey in the life of our Republic. Councillor Sav Dhaliwal from the Burnaby City Council also attended the event and spoke on the occasion.

Consul General Manish received the office bearers and volunteers of Heartfulness Vancouver. The group was led by Secretary Ms. Lakshmi Ravindran, who made a presentation on the initiative of Heartfulness in contributing to the well-being of the Community. In his remarks, CG commended the work of Heartfulness and gave suggestions for future partnership with the Consulate in order to promote spiritual and mental well-being amongst the community. He was presented with a copy of “Spiritual Anatomy” authored by Kamlesh D. Patel, also known as Daaji.

Consul General Manish participated in the opening ceremony of the office of International Student Union (ISU) office at the premises of the Progressive Intercultural Community Services Society (PICS). The ceremony was also graced by the by Hon Mayor of Surrey Ms Brenda Locke.
On the sidelines of the event, CG interacted with Anita Huberman; President & CEO of the Surrey Board of Trade, Jashanpreet Singh; President of ISU; PICS Board members and other leaders from the community.
The ISU office at PICS Society will provide support and guide an international students coming in British Columbia. British Columbia is home to about 25% of Indian International students coming to Canada.

Consul General Manish visited the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce and held meeting with board members of the Chamber led by Mr. Craig Toews, President of the Board of Abbotsford Chamber & Ms. Alex Mitchell,CEO. Consul General made a presentation on India opportunities and also gave an overview on India- Canada and India-BC economic partnership. Special focus of the discussions were possible partnership in Agrotech, food processing and higher education sectors. He informed about the opportunities for foreign education institutions of opening campus in India in GIFT city in Gujarat and the new UGC guidelines on opening of campuses of foreign universities in India.

Quiz on the Bharat - Loktantra ki Janani Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs is giving an opportunity to all to participate in Quiz on Constitutional Democracy and to get a certificate.
Consulate organized an event on the opportunities for investment, trade & tourism potential in Gujarat. Consul General made a detailed presentation highlighting the economic profile of Gujarat and the rapid development taking place in the State since 2003, when Vibrant Gujarat was launched. He briefed the guests about the upcoming ‘Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2024’ and invited them to participate in the event being held in Gandhinagar from 10-12 January 2024. His presentation also focused on ‘GIFT City’, International Financial Service Centre (IFSC), Diamond Research and Mercantile City (DREAM City)’ ‘Dholera Special Investment Region’ and tourist destinations in Gujarat. He invited the guests present to take part in the Vibrant Gujarat Summit.
Mr. Jagrup Brar, Hon’ble Minister of State of Trade of British Columbia (BC) was the Guest of Honour, who spoke about the excellent economic relations between India and BC. Invited guests also shared their experience of doing business with India. The programme culminated with a Gujarati dance performance by diaspora artists.

India in Vancouver - Consulate General of India organized Ayurveda Day 2023 on 10 November on the auspicious occasion of Dhanteras in partnership with Ayurveda Association of Canada. In his address CG extended greetings on the occasion and also spoke about importance of Ayurveda for preventive healthcare and it’s holistic healing powers. He also spoke about the initiatives taken by the Government of India to promote Ayurveda as an alternative system of medicine. Mr. Jeffrey Armstrong, an ICCR-Indologist Award winner also spoke on the occasion. A panel discussion was held in which eminent Ayurveda practitioners shared their knowledge and experience with the audience. The event was well received and highly appreciated by all present. More than 100 people attended the event.

On this occasion, Consul General spoke about the contribution of Sardar Patel in India’s independence struggle and his role in unification of India. A documentary on his life was shown during the occasion and a unity chain was also formed. Consulate officials also took ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas pledge’ on the occasion.

Consul General Manish attended the Diwali Gala event hosted by the BC-India Business Network. The event was attended by over 300 distinguished guests, including the Premier of BC, Honorable David Eby; Premier of Yukon, Honorable Ranj Pillai; several BC MLAs and prominent Business leaders and educational Institutions representatives actively engaged in promoting the India-Canada Economic Corridor.
The Founder and President Emeritus of BC-IBN Mr. Vivek Savkur acknowledged and applauded the invaluable contributions of Consul General in advancing the causes of Diaspora Engagement, Trade and Investment, and Cultural Ties, which have significantly enhanced the relationship between British Columbia and India and presented him an award on behalf of BC-IBN.
In his address, Consul General Manish expressed his heartfelt gratitude to BC-IBN for their pivotal role in fostering India-BC Business Engagement. He emphasized the paramount importance of robust economic ties between India and BC in areas of trade, technology, student exchange, tourism, etc.
In 2022, India-BC bilateral trade amounted to USD 1.9 billion which is 19% of 🇮🇳 🇨🇦 bilateral trade; 25% of Indian international students study in BC; largest arrivals in YVR airport is from India, and for Vancouver port India 🇮🇳 is the 4th largest export destination. About 10% of BC's population is people of Indian origin, who have robustly contributed to people-to-people ties and significantly continue to contribute to the socio-economic development of BC.
Furthermore, on the sidelines of this event, Consul General Manish engaged in productive interactions with the Premier of BC, Honorable David Eby, the Premier of Yukon, Honorable Ranj Pillai, the distinguished Speaker, Honorable Raj Chouhan, Trade Minister, Honorable Jagrup Brar, and Mr. Raghwa Gopal, the CEO of M Square Media.
This event not only celebrated the spirit of Diwali but also served as a platform for fruitful dialogues and partnerships aimed at advancing the bilateral economic and cultural relations between India and Canada.

Consul General Manish met with the leadership team of Lucent Biosciences. The team is led by Micheal Riedijk, President & CEO. Other members of the team include Peter Gross, Chief Technology Officer; Farah Nour, Chief Science Officer; and Jason McNamee, Chief Operating Officer. Lucent Biosciences focuses on advancing agriculture by introducing crop nutrition solutions that improve crop yields and soil health while also capturing carbon. Discussions were focused on exploring opportunities to introduce the technology in India, collaborating with companies and universities, and conducting a trial of the technology, in India.
