On our wedding day, we try to portray “a version” of ourselves. To truly shine though, we are required to portray the “truest version” of our Self, in all of our unique and individual glory. That’s when we show up on another level.

In order to look our best on the outside, we must first unlock the doors, and lovingly read every book that we have kept protected, on the inside.

Heritage can refer to practices or characteristics that are passed down through the years, from one generation to the next.

I think we romanticize the concept of ‘heritage’ when in fact there are many things from previous generations that we need to actively untangle, unlearn and step away from.

For example, we can let go of the antiquated ideas around skin-tone having anything to do with somebody’s character or value. We can unlearn the imagery of only one type of love being valid. We can step away from the idea that one of India’s many languages is any more important or prestigious than another.

We need to pick and choose the elements that serve us, and that which will serve generations to come.

Our culture has embedded in it things like meditation, breathing, yoga, a true relationship to the deepest parts of the Self and to the stars!

What we carry forward can be so productive, but that requires intention, and work. If we do this, the results can be magical.

“A form of enamel painting, primarily used in fine jewellery, meenakari, or minakari, is popular in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Originally a Persian artform, meenakari was brought to India in the sixteenth century and popularised in Rajasthan, which has become an important centre for the craft. The word meenakari is composed of two words — mina or meena meaning “paradise” and kari meaning “work on an object”.”
