Did you know acupuncture can help with heat? However, prevention is key so Prepare for high temperatures 🌄

A prolonged heat wave will affect the South Coast including Greater Victoria.

Daytime temperatures reaching 29 to 33 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows near 16 degrees Celsius are expected from now through Wednesday.

Plan to stay cool:
• MOST IMPORTANT: Drink plenty of water even when you don’t feel thirsty;
• Stay in the shade as much as possible;
• Close windows and curtains during the day and open them at night;
• Take a cool shower or bath but not for too long as it can dehydrate your skin. 10mn is a safe bet.
• Identify cool zones inside and outside of homes (like community centres and libraries);
• Apply ice packs and cool, damp cloths to your wrists and neck;
• Wear a hat to protect from sun;
• Use sunscreen if you must be exposed to the sun but remember that sunscreen does NOT protect against heatstroke;
• If able, check on others, especially those who live alone or are most at risk;
• Stay inside an air-conditioned building like a mall if you feel it is too much anytime and reach out for help.

And don't forget to book your appointment to help you cool you off 😎

Do you get frustrated when people say there's no research to support therapies like acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine? There is an accumulation of lots of research for a wide range of health conditions.

Here's an example of a new one done in an outpatient clinical setting in Germany. 96 patients with chronic tension headaches related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction were divided into 4 groups: 1. Acupuncture treatment, 2. Therapeutic exercises, 3. Combo of acupuncture and exercises, and 4. "usual care" (not made clear in the abstract, but I'm thinking probably painkillers or maybe mouthguards).

After 6 weeks of treatment and then 6 months after initial treatment, only the acupuncture group had long-lasting relief.

Feel free to share this!

And let us know the TCM and acupuncture research you find most interesting!

经过 6 周的治疗和初次治疗后的 6 个月,只有针灸组的症状得到了持续的缓解。

One of the many amazing tools I use in my practice, some of you might even remember it ;-)

Gua sha has recently gained popularity and is trending in the skincare and wellness industries. For beauty purposes, Gua Sha is touted for its ability to increase skin elasticity, reduce puffiness, redness, and wrinkles, and relieve tension in the muscles of the face and jaw.⁣

However Gua Sha is not just for the face –– its cultural significance dates back centuries and is an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with a history of studied healers behind it. “Gua” means “to scrape” and “sha” translates to “sand” which refers to the sand-like bruising after treatment.⁣

This Traditional Chinese Medicine practice is used to increase the body’s blood flow and circulation of qi, encourage lymphatic drainage and detoxification, decrease inflammation, and treat pain, sore muscles, and other conditions by scraping a tool, stone, or hands across certain areas of the body.⁣

Interested in experiencing a Gua Sha treatment for yourself? Talk to you TCM practitioner to see if it’s appropriate for you. Gua Sha is not for everyone and may be contraindicated in some circumstances. It should always be performed safely by a registered acupuncturist or trained TCM practitioner.

Good day everyone!

Spring is here, and all trees are blossoming. The energy is strong and rising, but did you know that we are already transitioning between the wood and fire period?
The transition period started on April 17th and will continue until May 5th, when we start the fire season.
The fire season is associated with summer and the cardiovascular system in TCM. Prevention is paramount in TCM, and it strongly encourages regular check-ups during these transitions.

Feeling like laughing without reasons or devoid of pleasure? Uncontrollable love for spicy flavor and scorch scent? Insomnia? It might be time to check in or simply for prevention.

So, how can I help you today?

21/01/2021

We enter a period of the year that we call the offseason. According to the classical Chinese calendar, this is the transition period between the element Water and the element Wood (Kidney and Liver systems).

It is a good time of the year to strengthen the body and help it prepare for the coming spring.
Several of my patients consult preventively during these periods. This is a practice that has been promoted by this medicine for thousands of years.

Know that I remain open, so feel free to visit my website for more details or to book an appointment online.

Have a great day,
Rudy Clemente R.Ac
