Victoria Youth Mental Health

We are Victoria Youth Mental Health Coalition. This is a student-led initiative dedicated to improving mental health services in Greater Victoria schools. Our mission is to connect youth with opportunities/resources to help better their well-being, and one of the projects we are currently working on is a Calm Room being implemented in Mount Douglas Secondary School.

The Calm Room can help students regulate their emotions, stress, and anxiety. It will serve as a safe and calming space for students to practice self-care when they are feeling overwhelmed. Students often have no place to go in school when they are feeling stressed and often resort to locations such as bathroom stalls to attempt to calm down. This is not an appropriate location for someone in emotional distress. Especially during these unprecedented times, students deserve a safe space. The Calm Room is a pilot project that will provide tactful ways for students to destress and feel more calm.

We have gotten approval to use an unoccupied counsellors office for our Calm Room and are currently in the process of looking for donations for items for the space. Please look below for requested items:

* Beanbag
* Calming lamp (lava lamp, salt lamp, etc…)
* Tissues
* Mirror (any size)
* Art supplies
* Colouring books or sheets
* Fidgets and other sensory toys
* Books (specifically mental health/wellness books and workbooks)
* A diffuser
* Zen garden
* Healthy snacks of any kind
Or...
* Anything else you think would improve the space. We appreciate any and all donations, no matter how big or small.
