Automotive Technician duties and responsibilities

An Automotive Technician must have a comprehensive understanding of automotive engines and systems. Their primary duties and responsibilities include:

Performing routine automotive maintenance tasks, which could include oil change, tire rotation, battery installations, headlight and taillight installations, transmission work/flushes, air conditioner recharges, and front-end alignments
Conducting diagnostic procedures to identify the cause of automotive issues and make effective and accurate recommendations
Conducting necessary repairs and testing vehicles before handing them back to customers
Inspecting vehicles to ensure they meet provincial requirements for safety and emissions
Maintaining knowledge of current industry best practices
Maintaining paperwork and customer records
Ensuring equipment longevity
Maintaining a clean and safe workplace
Service Technician experience requirements

Candidates should be licensed red seal technicians with at least five years of experience in the automotive industry. Top Service Technicians have experience major diagnostics and repairs. Candidates who have already Government inspection tickets will be considered above others.

Affordable Repair advantages:

We are a busy but small shop. Low stress, easy going work environment without the burdens often found in larger or franchise shops. We are a straight time shop and you will not experience the pressures found in a flat rate work environment. Wages will range from $35- $45 per hour depending on experience. Open to candidates that may prefer 4 ten hours days allowing for 3 day weekends. 3 Weeks Vacation to start! 100% Company paid health and dental benefits. Located in the heart of Langford you may cut the commute and be out of the house less allowing for a better home life!

Service Advisors, interact with customers and interpret their concerns to the Auto Mechanic. Their duties include:

Estimating the cost and time needed for a wide range of repairs
Welcoming customers and discussing their needs
Answering customer inquires, either in person or on the phone
Develop repair estimates by taking the cost of materials, supplies, and labour into consideration
Prepare repair orders by detailing the vehicle’s problems or symptoms
Connecting customers to the right auto technician
Test-driving vehicles to confirm the customers’ vehicle is repaired as needed
Maintaining automotive records by keeping track of problems and corrective actions
Service Advisor skills and qualifications

For Service Advisors to excel in their duties, they must have empathy. Also important is their knowledge of both the auto industry and their employer’s services. Some other necessary skills for Service Advisors include:

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
Strong customer service skills in order to handle customer complaints and questions effectively
Critical thinking, organization, time management and problem-solving skills to perform their job successfully
Knowledge of digital technology including the ability to use the internet and the appropriate software
Ability to interpret technical terms to the customers
Patience to cope with different customers’ personalities
Decision-making skills
Proficiency with industry-specific software
Analytical thinking
Service Advisor experience requirements

Candidates should have two years of experience in the automotive industry. Top Service Advisors have experience coordinating departments and providing exceptional customer service. As it is a technical position, the right candidate should already be familiar with mechanical, automotive, and related technical terms. Candidates who have already experience in parts will have an upper hand and be considered above others.
