Just 2 sessions to achieve the perfect density for this client. Any more and it would look unnatural…which is NEVER the goal. This SMP is subtle, yet still very impactful.

Density for longer hair on men can look great but not everyone is a candidate. In fact, many clients are not. There are questions that need to be asked. The most important being age. If this client was under 35-40 with this level of thinning…I would not do density to this length of hair (unless it was transplanted). Most times, it’s best they clip their hair down completely for their treatment. They may grow their hair out again after (as long as we work within their hairline).

We all know hair loss is progressive, so saturating density on advanced thinning or young clients is HUGELY irresponsible. SMP is a game of contrast…the onus is on the artist to set-up each client for success long term, not create new problems for them in the future.

Almost everyone with hair loss is a candidate for SMP, it’s just a matter of what type will be in your best interest long term. If you’ve got questions….I’ve got answers.

I am pretty happy with the density we have established already in just two sessions. Our third session will be spent ironing out any inconsistencies in our existing density of “follicles” …before layering our impressions (slightly darker) to create the illusion of depth. So far, so good!

I finally caught up with one of my models from our Edmonton Training (with .smp), and we finished up his third session….9 months later.

His other 2 sessions were VERY healed and looked great, so I was happy to throw down maximum density to pull it all together. CHECK OUT the close-up to see our healed and fresh impressions in their glory.

Our client had two transplants, previously, and I find SMP to be a perfect complement to a well executed transplant. He’s happy so we are happy. Simple pleasures 😊

We started with a short hair density (WITHIN the natural hairline). By second session, our client was ready to “brave the shave”and we went for the full natural hairline reconstruction instead.

I’m not one to pressure but this was a GREAT choice for my client. As always, we start conservatively with our pigment choice and our approach so we can make the smooth transition into the shaved head when the time comes.

Excited for our check-in session in another month to make sure everything is absolutely 💯

This absolute stunning woman came into the studio wearing her wig and left rocking her shaved head. She was experiencing a fairly significant amount of hair loss by way of transition alopecia. Scalp micropigmentation was a perfect solution for her.

Her goal was to be able to enjoy the water and feel free (wig free) while returning home to visit family in the Caribbean ✅

While the technique used for a female shaved head is no different than our male clients, the hairline approach needs to be softer and more delicate. I feel like we nailed it. Her smile filled my cup and I’m happy she’s happy.

Our approach was to use small, delicate impressions with a great deal of density and soft shades of pigments. The overall result being more feminine than our male full head SMP results.

This full head SMP was a gradual build over the course of 4 sessions. We are often asked if we break up the work and do different parts of the scalp at each session. The answer is a firm “no”. We do the entire area of concern, each session, layering our impressions to achieve the desired density.

We created a full, soft finish for the win.
This client is returning for his complimentary check-in/touch-up at the end of this month, so I’ll post some healed photos soon. I use Vasocaine to remove redness from the scalp, which is great…but it takes away from the full effect of the work in photos. Stay tuned!!! 🤘🏼

He travelled to Victoria from Edmonton for 4 “long ass” sessions. Each session was a big rewarding change. Our time together was a total gift. My approach when doing a full head SMP is to create a soft, gradiant nape and lower hairline with more density and firmer details to frame the face.

Soft, receded hairline for our Norwood 5 client. I layered 3 different mid-range shades over the course of our sessions to create an illusion of depth in my “follicles”. I think we achieved a very natural, age appropriate result.

This client was blown away that not one person has noticed his new “hair”. That’s a big win in the SMP game.

Many clients (and artists) think that more density + darker pigment = better. The reality is, it’s not. We match the shade and density of the existing follicles to create a natural SMP look.
