First nettle harvest of the year! Photobomb by Rammie the feral sheep, who just had to touch them with his nose even though he knew better!

I've never been so excited to feel spring approaching! Happy Imbolc, St. Brigid's Day. We're halfway to spring equinox! Newborn lambs are appearing on the landscape (we rescued this little guy a week ago; he was born premature, and his mother was nowhere to be found), the nettles are up and so is the garlic, and our young hazelnut trees are waving their catkins and buds in the wind. This is our first full winter on the land, we're still living in the tiny cabin until we can get the house built, and it's been dark. But unseen work happens in times of rest and rebuilding, and maybe, just maybe, new life will emerge in the spring — in the form of, you know, writing projects!

The zen of clearing out. reminded me of this day by posting the cutest picture of a real life sea otter that I’ve ever seen! And it’s got very healthy-looking teeth!

When I was a storyteller, touring schools in BC, I wrote and performed a story about sea otters. With the near extinction of otters during the fur trade, the balance of the food chain among sea otters, sea urchins, and giant kelp was upset.

The story follows a crew of four marine biologists out to the west coast of Vancouver Island, where they are counting sea otters, SCUBA diving in the kelp beds, and singing sea shanties as they work. 

SEA SHANTIES! I was ahead of my time!

I’m still a storyteller! Now I put those skills to use for business owners who are doing good in the world.
