owner Michelle used to work in the technology industry but always had a passion for making pastries, travelling and photography.
She decided to leave a career in product management to pursue her passion and attend the world-renowned culinary school, ル・コルドン・ブルー・ジャパン Le Cordon Bleu Japan 👩🍳
After completing the Advanced French Patisserie Program, she moved back to Canada and started working as a pastry chef at a catering company.

Alex launched Booster Scoops this year as a way of combining his two favourite things: ice cream and working out 💪

Every year, Flavours of Hope supports a handful of women to start their businesses through the Dream Cuisines program, offering support in marketing, budgeting, and getting them started with the Vancouver Farmers Markets. Through our community partnership, Coho provides a space in our commercial kitchens to these businesses every year 🧑🍳

Fariya Bakery makes authentic Persian bread like Barbari (a traditional Persian flatbread), Poacha (soft cardamom bread), Semite (braided bread with sesame seeds), and Firinda (soft flatbread topped with tomatoes, cheese, and more) 🇮🇷
In 2022, Zahra Babajanipour moved to Vancouver from Iran to complete her MBA at University Canada West 📚 The stars aligned for Zahra in the spring of 2023, when she completed her Master’s Degree and her family was able to join her in Canada.
This year, she joined the Flavours of Hope Dream Cuisines program to put her Master’s degree to the test and to launch Fariya Bakery 🥨

Samira started this year with goals of supporting her family of 7 and opening a Palestinian restaurant in Vancouver 🇵🇸
In 2017, Samira and her family moved to Canada but couldn’t find a taste of home anywhere in Vancouver. Cooking Palestinian food was a way to soothe her homesickness and bring back memories of her mother and grandmother in Saudi Arabia.
“Believe in yourself and believe in your work. Be active on social media, ask your friends to share the word, and get to know your neighbourhood. It’s difficult to start, but it will get easier and you will gain more confidence in the end.”

On top of her full-time job of supporting her 5 kids, owner Samira joined ’s Dream Cuisines program to fuel her passion for introducing Palestinian dishes to new taste buds. This summer, she launched using her mother and grandmother’s recipes to share her traditional Palestinian dishes with Vancouver.

Everything Za'atar is making everything with za’atar! Za’atar is a staple in Syrian and Levantine households, and is celebrated for its health benefits and delightful taste 🇸🇾
Bushra moved from Damascus to Vancouver in 2022 and was inspired to connect with her new community by sharing the tastes and traditions of her heritage. She took her great-grandmother’s recipe for za’atar, and with the help of her two daughters Lora and Loujein and Flavours of Hope, has turned it into a full-time business 💡🌿
In addition to selling jars of za’atar, Bushra makes authentic Syrian foods like saj (pita), creamy hummus and crispy falafel.

Darna Moroccan Flavours is Vancouver’s newest Moroccan bakery and caterer 🍪🥗
Owner Chaima’s ultimate goal is to grow her business through online orders and catering so that she can eventually run the business with a hands-off approach and spend more time with her 1-year-old son 👩👦

Darna Moroccan Flavours makes traditional Moroccan bread, cookies, and treats like lemon cheesecake, stuffed dates, Fekkas and Ghraybeh (Moroccan-style cookies similar to shortbread) 🇲🇦
Chaima is no stranger to the food & beverage industry. When she first moved to Canada in 2021, she worked as a private chef at UBC and as a production chef at a catering company. Her mother is a chef in Morocco, so the kitchen became her form of therapy whenever she felt alone in this new country 👩🏻🍳
Last year, Chaima went on maternity leave and decided to switch gears, joining Flavours of Hope ’s Dream Cuisines program. She started Darna Moroccan Flavours in hopes of sharing her Moroccan heritage with the rest of Vancouver.

Owner Delia moved to Canada from Mexico in 2018 and decided to use baking to reconnect with her home country. Having rarely cooked when living in Mexico, Delia challenged herself to learn how to bake using her mother’s recipes 👩👧
After years of practicing, refining her recipes, and words of encouragement from her friends at Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House, Delia joined the Flavours of Hope Dream Cuisines program and officially launched her businesses this summer 🎉

After completing their MBA at UBC, Tocha Foods co-owners Matt and Viggy decided to pursue their passions for food with a new invention: spiced sauces 🔥
They left behind their full-time jobs in hospitality and investment banking and joined Coho East Georgia this summer.
"As a brand new food startup, it was important for us to have the ability to develop, test and iterate on our products at the most efficient price point. A commissary offered us all this flexibility at an affordable entry price.
Coho has all the equipment we need, plus the availability to expand operations as we grow the business. Tocha Foods makes spiced sauces - a reinvention of the condiment category 🍅🌶️
This summer, they launched their very first product, the Tocha Original, inspired by both hot sauce and ketchup but mild enough (and healthy enough) to eat every day with your favourite foods.
