Random thought at work.
I love the song "does your mother know?" By ABBA.
You couldn't throw a rock in the 70s without hitting some rock band writing a song about a sexy teenager. But ABBA? They're cheeky as heck. They wrote "does your mother know?"
Which basically translates their experience as "Heeey dancing and flirting with a pretty lady!.... Wait, you're how old?! Jesus f**k, you're a child, where's your mum?!"
And I love them for that. Especially given how normal, and uncontested it was to sexualize young girls back then.
Also ABBA f**king slaps.
Seattle bound.

It was a delight to perform for you all last night. Thank you so much to all the event producers for putting so much hard work into this fundraiser, and deepest blessings and appreciation to all you lovely fierce dancers.
A little shameless self-promotion, because shame has no place in artistry, I recorded the set that I played last night and I will be posting it shortly on my Patreon. If you wanted it all for yourself, have a boo and consider signing up. It's a massively helpful resource for me and is filled with monthly exclusives.

Posting this here dispite the fact that it doesn't have anything to do with AppleCat persay.... but instead my AppleBun!!
Friends and Fam, let's help send Chloe Bun to Indonesia for her 16th Birthday.
So here is the DL, little Bun is turning 16 this year and it's been my plan for years to take her to Indonesia to explore that side of her heritage. Both as a means to understand herself more, as well so she may understand firsthand the different ways folks live in the world.
We intend to travel from Jakarta, to Bandung, and end in Bali over the course of 10 days. This has been something Chloe Bun and I have been planning for years, and we are deeply looking forward to spending this time exploring together.
With that said, as a single-income household it won't be cheap, and as it's her 16th we thought that maybe we could reach out to friends and family for support in funding this unique once in a lifetime experience.
Our goal is 3000.00CAN, if we make that it would be amazing and that would cover our flights, and if not every little contribution and share counts towards making this little dream of ours a reality. If we are fortunate enough to make anything above that, Bun and I will make sure to put it towards educational and nourishing experiences for her.

For those of you who can't donate to gofundme our etransfer email is [email protected].
Thank you so much for considering supporting Chloe Bun's sweet 16th celebration in Indonesia. ๐ ๐ฐ ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ฉ
Why do I make art from death?
Well to start on an obtuse note, I don't, not persay. That would be to say that there wasn't something already inherently artistic about death. I don't pluck it's beauty from thin air and bestow it benevolently where it wasn't before. I simply take what I find beautiful, and try to convey what I already see.
Death feeds life, life gives to death. So it is, so it has always been, and gods willing so it will always be. Somewhere along the way we started to be indoctrinated with the idea that death was an affliction, that it was a solely disease to be cured. We were taught that death is grotesque, evil, something to be shunned, and in most cases something to be feared.
But this has not always been so.
If you go far enough into the myths of the world each of them will tell you that the mastery and transcension of death is a lonely and heartbreaking existence. One that can only be achieved by losing ones humanness. Because that's just it, death, like myth, is an integral part of the human experience. And without it, there would be no new life.
This is what I find beautiful. This dark dance partner to life is where I find myself inspired to make art from where nature has already started.
My sculptures may make some folk uncomfortable, but honestly that is in part the point. I want folks who would normally cast their eyes as far away from death as possible to gaze upon my work and feel compelled to think about it. Because I thoroughly believe that the understanding of deaths truth nature is on each of our tongues tip. But unfortunately the absence of grief work, death education, and connection to the cycles of nature have our unconscious hackles up so hard they've built walls upon walls upon walls. So, I push that edge by taking death and adorning her with beauty, with curiosity, and with stories. I brazenly ask you to f**king LOOK.
You may see that as we are art in life, someday we each will be art in death. That is inevitable no matter how we go about it, and it doesn't have to be terrible. It is my wish for us to live and die well with this understanding, one that has been around since time immemorial.
I love my sculptures, they feed me in ways I have only found before in my music. And in many ways they have similar inspirations. Movement, curiosity, storytelling, beauty in the dark taboo spaces, and even playfulness.
I make art like this because I am called to offer my small part in shifting the narrative we've been fed arouns death. I make art from bones to convey beauty, contemplation, ritual, and sometimes discomfort in a way that only art can.
I am a bone witch, among other things. And I do this, for the same reason I do anything else that has stirred so deeply inside my belly, because I am called to.
Image note: this piece is unnamed. She is made from a doe I salvaged and cleaned. She had been there a fair while. I have lacquard dried roses for her eyes as it seemed for whatever reason that she was a romantic. The social structures of deer families are inherently loving, so this doesn't feel too far fetched.
I've been musing and I have reached a curious place.
Healers, Community Builders, "Conscious" Event Producers, Teachers, Coaches, Thought leaders, Venue owners: how are you making your workshops, your retreats, your classes, your events, and the like accessible and welcoming to low income folks, to disabled folks, and to BIPOC?
By no means does anyone or any event have to be perfect, that said I am wondering what people are doing to create these spaces with more collective ease.
How are we to shift our current paradigm to a more sustainable, healthy one, if it is predominantly well-off-white-able-bodied folks that are able to attend these healing offerings? Isn't a power imbalance in favour of Rich YT people already one of the hugest issues with our dominant paradigm?
Can this healing last if it leaves so many behind? Especially given that many of these offerings did not solely come from Eurocentric spaces. I believe that sustainable healing cannot come from a gentrified appropriated place. It can feel like change, but truly I can't help but judge it as feeding into the hungry maw of our very broken culture.
So yes, at the same time, we need to be making a profit too, rent needs to be paid, food put on the table etc etc. Capitalism has us all by a choke chain and that's a musing for a whole other post. For clarity I am not sitting here trying to whistle blow from my high horse, I am scratching my head out loud so to speak. I am musing as a person who has offered and attended many gatherings, on how we can do better. I believe that making a profit and offering accessible and welcoming spaces does not have to be mutually exclusive. It could be as simple as scholarships, low income tickets, BIPOC pricing, or even allowing folks the option of paying more for their attendance to balance things out. Hiring more q***r and BIPOC folks as staff and advisers, gender free bathrooms, etc etc. I see things happening a lot in the dance scene, but would really like to see these attempts go further than that.
I'm a low income q***r neurodivergent deaf person, but also Im a Cis Passing Able-bodied White Woman, and being as such I think it's the responsibility of people like me to ask these types of questions, as we stand on the borders of privilege and oppression.
Can we please normalize these kind of conversations without getting our hackles up, screaming "virtue signaler", or knee jerk collapsing into shame?
Anyway, just putting it out there. I am genuinely curious to hear what other folks are doing to shift things. And if anything perhaps this post will serve as a sowed seed to get people thinking on how they can proceed more skillfully.
Baby steps are still massively integral steps, in many cases they are the most integral steps. It's just hard to see that sometimes.
Portland, I f**king adore you. Have me back soon. I dare ye.
Big appreciation to sheenamedicina for having me out and for cultivating such a lovely cauldron of delights.
