GNS is an independent JK-12 International Baccalaureate boarding and day school in Victoria, BC.
Each child holds our attention at GNS, a day school that is firmly rooted in the values of the International Baccalaureate (IB) and the Round Square. As one of only twelve schools in Canada offering all three IB programs, GNS is proud of its unique 'IB Advantage': a 21st-Century approach which educates the whole child and creates global thinkers. GNS offers 5- and 7-day Family Boarding options for students who are not residents of Victoria, and provides an extensive co-curricular program.
In May, three Grade 4 students, Ophira, Lucy and Lillian, were selected along with students from across the province to participate in the Provincial BC Heritage Fair. This included a multi-day history camp and an opportunity to present their learning at the Project Showcase at the Royal BC Museum. Lillian, whose project was about the Cadborosaurus was unable to attend, but Ophira (Bastion Square, Ghost Stories and The Hanging Judge) and Lucy (Sealand of the Pacific, Whales in Captivity in Oak Bay) were there and they even got to speak with the Lieutenant Governor of BC, The Honourable Janet Austin about their research. Congratulations!

The Grade 8 Goose Chase is an annual end-of-year tradition where students tackle a scavenger hunt around their city and their neighbourhood by taking photos and videos to amass points. They then finish the night on the turf with some lawn games, great food and a giant obstacle course! What a fun night celebrating our amazing group of Grade 8s.
Step Up Day offers Junior School students a glimpse into their future classrooms. Grade 5 students had an especially exciting day at Pemberton Woods, bonding with Grade 6 students through fun games on the turf!

Grade 9 students wrapped up their Earth Science unit this week. This year, they focused on using nature as an inspiration to better understand how we are all connected, and how nature can guide us in developing more sustainable habits and technologies. For their final project, students were tasked with researching or creating a plan for an innovative technology using biomimicry. Each student presented a pamphlet or infographic of their findings and ideas to the in-class simulated 'city council' to try and get funding for their technology.

The Senior School Pride and Equality Club also hosted a variety of pride-themed and informational events. The week is wrapping up with a by-donation 'Be Loud and Proud' casual day for all students, with all funds being donated to local youth charities.
