For the past 2 weeks, old customers came from Vancouver, upper island ( Campbell River, Comox Valley ), mid island (Lady-smith, Duncan), Mill Bay, Langford, North Saanich… for their last plate at this location.

We heard a lot of touching memories, they have been here, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years, 40 years, 50 years, the longest 70 years ago. A couple engaged at the restaurant 50 years ago, they came to the restaurant and sat at the same table to have a meal before the restaurant closes. Grandparents now, met each other at the restaurant and married…

Old friends, family members hang out at our restaurant again, they looked at old pictures of their moms, who brought them to the restaurant often, talked about the things 30, 40, 50 years ago, “when I was boy, my dad brought our family here every weekend; when I was a teenager, I danced upstairs, after the class, I always came here to hangout with my friends; I worked across the corner, always order a fries to go wrapped with newspaper etc.

We would want to say another thank you for all. Thank you for coming again, thank you for your patience, thank you for your support, thank you for your understanding, thank you for all the wishes.

As the time count down we are continuing our search for a reasonable suited place. Stay tuned on facebook and our instagram for updates.

Yes, our last day to take orders is this Saturday, Jan 28th. We will open late till 8pm to serve you. Thank you!

We are sorry to make this post. This was a really hard decision for the current owners. After 90 years serving Victoria, Saturday, Jan 28th, 2023 will be our last day to take orders. We will be closed permanently at this location.

We truly appreciate our customers enjoying our food and your kind smiles to our staffs will be remembered.

We will keep updating if we find an ideal spot in the future.

At this 90th years opening anniversary, we would like to appreciate all of our continuing customers new and regular. We are the 4th or 5th owners of this restaurant throughout the time of when this restaurant first opened.

Unfortunately the time we have spent at this location is coming to an end for us here. Yes the rumours are true and the building has been re zoned for a hotel. We are searching for a new spot. (If you know if a good one for us let us know)

We are more than thankful for everyone that has been to this location and hope we can continue feeding the best fish and chips on the south tip island for all of you.

Today, let’s introduce our new dessert item, Fried cream custard (4pc)- $5.95

Also called Fried Milk, the famous street food in China. The dish is golden and crisp on the outside, and soft and white on the inside, with a milky flavour. Milk is thickened with cream, flour, cornstarch and eggs, and then covered with breadcrumbs and deep fried.

Very popular now, our kitchen need to prepare more to make sure we have enough for the next day!

2022, 90th anniversary of “Old Vic Fish and Chips”

When a customer said he came to our restaurant 57 years ago and came to check us again when he is visiting his family in Victoria; other customer said he has been here when he was 12 years old and moved to Vancouver with his parents, now he came back to visit us with his own family when he is in Victoria. What a lovely memory! We always heard this kind of stories and feel so touched! ❤️xoxo

Well, our restaurant is closed today for a Hallmark movie filming- “The Wedding Veil III”.
