Awesome job Victoria Police!
Nowadays, police don’t always get the warmest of spotlights. News can seem to be inundated by stories of violence, arrests, and missing persons. But today, a few Victoria Police officers showed their softer sides and helped out a local man.
On Wednesday, Cody Harder accidentally locked his keys in his car in a construction zone downtown. Luckily, three officers came to his aid.
“We all hear stories of how police are nasty, well here are three of Victoria's finest trying to help me after I've locked my keys in my car in a construction zone,” Harder wrote on Facebook. “No fines or scolding, just great people trying to help. I love these guys. Remember, they are not all bad.”
Interval cameras are being proposed for the Malahat.
Cameras on Malahat proposed to prevent speeding Speeders on the Malahat, beware. The Capital Regional District has proposed new technology on the highway in an attempt to prevent dangerous driving.

Have you seen these keys?!
From a Victoria Buzz fan:
I keep hoping I will wake up from this nightmare, but our reality has gone from bad to much worse.
My wife and I have two young kids and took the ferry over to Victoria for a family wedding.
Last night we went for dinner at Nautical Nellie's with both of them and another couple.
In the hustle and bustle when we left the restaurant, on a busy Friday evening, trying to keep the kids from running into the street, and stopping to tie one of their shoes on a crowded sidewalk with both our hands full of stuff--well, you get the idea. Somewhere along the walk, the keys got put down (not dropped, or we would have heard them) and when we retraced our steps, they were gone.
I'd hoped some good citizen would have given them to a doorman at The Keg, The Local or any of the twenty busy bars in the area, but nothing was turned in all night. Talked to the police this morning, the only thing dropped off at the department overnight was a wallet. I can only assume someone grabbed them intending to try the remote unlock to see what they could steal, or maybe it was some kid, who doesn't realize what they were.
What was picked up is the only three-button RFID transmitter key in existence on this continent for our van. This vehicle is a Japanese import with a sophisticated immobilizer, and the key has a chip in it that can't be duplicated by North American Toyota dealers. I bought the vehicle a month ago from a dealer on the mainland who led me to believe they would be receiving another key for it from Japan in the few weeks following our purchase. This was not the case; as the manager just informed me, most cars sold by auction in Japan come with only one key and they haven't gotten anything else from the auction since.
I'd tried to get it copied but our local key cutter did not have these in stock. Our family trip arrived before we could find an alternative.
I'm sitting here at Habit Coffee in a mixture of resentment, numbness and panic, and I am desperate to try anything. I even dug through trash cans along the route last night before giving up and getting it towed to our hotel, which we anticipate having to spend another week in at least. The key is somewhere on this island, and it is our only way home. Please, if you were out on Friday night in the area around 7:30PM and saw anything along that stretch on Wharf, any info would be greatly appreciated by email, phone or text.
Above is a photoshopped picture of what they should look like. The glow-in the dark NA tag and orange piano fob are unmistakable, as is the Toyota key itself. The reverse side of the key has three buttons on it as pictured.
We will pay $500 for their safe immediate return.
Thank you,
John and Maria
