A grade 5 Class was thrilled to learn about Owl species found within Niagara.
This student's comment had to be one of the funniest we've had during the Owl Pellet Investigation!
Wishing everyone a Happy Groundhog Day!
We are visiting a grade 2 class to share all about this important native species through hands-on learning and activities!

The resting Trumpter Swans kept a watchful eye out as a Fox makes its way across the frozen waterway.
Happy hiking on the trails!
Locating wildlife during the cold winter months can be tricky.
Sometimes you need to rely on evidence!
This rabbit s**t (๐ฉ) was observed on a nature walk. Take a closer look at the s**t. What do you notice?
Size? Shape? Colour? Can you tell what the rabbit could have eaten from observing their ๐ฉ?
This s**t was relatively fresh! There is a chance the rabbit could be near by.
The thrill of dissecting Owl Pellets!
One of our Explorers said "This looks like a hairball my cat throws up!" Another Explorer says "The pellet feels a little hard and squishy and, I can see a bone already!"
Our Explorers were able to successfully identify the prey their owl had consumed based on the bones revealed.

How can we help migrating birds?
Our NATURE SEEKERS Explorers took part in a small conservation effort by creating their own window stickers to help birds avoid window collisions at their homes.
Handpicked off the tree and tasted by each of our NATURE SEEKERS Explorers, is Ontario's ONLY native species of apple - the wild crabapple! (Malus Coronaria)
How many Banded Garden Spiders do you think our Explorers will discover in their habitats this Wednesday? The answer will be posted! ๐ฆ๐ท๐ฆ
With its belly facing south as always, this Banded Garden Spider (Argiope trifasciata) waits for prey to become entangled in the web.
This particular species will stay active in the Niagara Region until the first frost.
The Banded Garden Spider is beneficial to gardens, as they act as a natural pest control!
Our NATURE SEEKERS Explorers are looking forward to locating and identifying wildlife species that makes an appearance during our upcoming fall programming.
The frog in this photo is a Green Frog. One of 13 different types of Frogs and Toads found across Ontario!
