It is our first Thanksgiving without the patriarch of our family. The cooker of the meal. The baker of the pies. The bringer togetherer of the family. The story teller. The wisdom sharer. At 91 he was still all of this and more. I know these are made up words and titles but he was such a strong force for keeping tradition in our family even after we lost our mom twelve years ago. We are working hard to carry on tradition, to make time for family to gather together, especially on the holidays and we are also focusing on being thankful in the midst of our grief and sadness on this very first holiday gathering without him. It is not easy to find reasons to be grateful in the midst of a grief journey but I truly believe that gratitude and thankfulness can overcome grief even if just for brief moments in time. Wishing you all many blessings this Thanksgiving Day and sending love and extra hugs to everyone who is missing their loved ones today and every day xo.

As we begin this Thanksgiving weekend we are pausing for a moment to remember with gratitude, all of the blessings in our lives.

Before Boss got really sick we were getting ready to move him from his house to a great little condo overlooking the canal. The thing he was most excited about was that the condo had a nice closet big enough to allow him to take all of his shirts with him ❤️ Anyone who knew my father in law knows how he was always dressed so nice in dress shirts and dress pants. Dress shirts and ties were among his favourite things.
The condo never happened. God had other plans 💔 As we head into our very first Thanksgiving weekend and family gathering without him we are all trying hard to focus on the many things we have to be grateful for. Today I am grateful that these amazing quilts we had made have arrived at the perfect time. All of boss’s shirts went into creating 10 beautiful quilts. One for each of us and one for each precious grandchild and great grandchild. The little red heart in the lower corner was made from his favourite Christmas shirt ❤️ and each quilt has one to remind us of how much he loved all of us coming together to celebrate the holidays and how grateful he always was that we could be together. Coming together as a family and sharing a wonderful home cooked meal was Boss’s way of telling us he loved us. Family meals were his love language ❤️ thank you so much to Gemma from RE-Vive the TEE. I can’t even begin to tell you how much these quilts mean to us and can’t thank you enough for your excellent work. She made ten quilts in less than a month and shipped them back to us so beautifully packaged. I promise your beautiful creations will be well loved for many years to come ❤️

Today we celebrate Jennifer :)
Jennifer has been a valuable member of our family for 7 years now and we are truly blessed to have her as she graciously takes on multiple roles on a daily basis. Her caring nature is consistently witnessed by the families we serve and she has a compassionate way about her that puts everyone at ease whenever she speaks with them. We can't even begin to thank you enough for all that you do Jennifer. Your tireless commitment to our funeral home and to the families we serve is greatly appreciated. We love you and we are so grateful for the amazing caregiver that you are xo

Today we celebrate Cal :)
He joined our family here at the funeral home 3 years ago in September . Cal is a man of many talents and he works tirelessly to help us maintain our facility and keep our exterior grounds looking beautiful. He wears many hats in his role and can always be counted on to help serve our families with the the utmost respect and compassion. His unique personality is always a joy to have in the office and it just wouldnt be the same place without him here. We love you Cal. Thank you for being such an integral part of our family. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police lead Her Majesty The Queen's 2km State Funeral Procession today, riding the horses the Mounties gifted to the Queen through the years. Canada represents the largest Commonwealth contingent with over 100 members of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP in attendance. What an incredible life of service honoured today. 🇬🇧🙏🇨🇦

We started to offer our new "Dalton Jacques Memorial Suite" to the families that we have served this month and we are pleased to announce that together with the Breen Family and the Morin Family we have adopted our very first dinner at the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton in honour of Dalton. He would be so proud of us :) Our cozy gathering space was created over a year ago but with Covid restrictions we were unable share it until now. The memorial suite is a place where families can come together and share a meal with their friends and family members in memory of their loved one. We offer it free of charge but request a donation to help feed families staying at Ronald McDonald House South Central Ontario. Our beautiful and cozy space was inspired by Dalton's wish to have something good come from his journey. Our hope is that families will gather here with family and friends in honour of their loved one and share a meal and fond memories and that they will leave here with their hearts full of love. Through the gathering of donations we will in turn help to feed others who are also on difficult journeys. Thank you to the Breen and Morin families for helping us make this very first "meal adoption" possible. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Another sneak peek ❤️ this is the focal point of our newly renovated 200 seat chapel inside of our funeral home. We will be so proud to share this beautiful and comforting space with our families as soon as covid restrictions are lifted. Seating being installed this week. I will share more when it is completed and more of our renovations as they are finished up. Some really exciting things are about to happen with our building. Stay Tuned :)

Just a tiny sneak peek at our new Dalton Jacques Memorial Suite. This intimate gathering space was created to honor Dalton's wish for something good to come from his journey. The room was designed with some of Dalton's "favorites" in mind. The yellow accents represent his favorite color. The purpose of the room represents his love of coming together with family and friends to share a meal and create and share fond memories (yes we are looking into a s'mores station!) Donations generated from the use of this space will help to provide meals for families at the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton. The space will be offered to our families free of charge with a donation to Ronald McDonald House Hamilton. This incredible "house" serves as a home away from home for so many families in Niagara who are battling serious illness with their children. By sharing a meal with family and friends in our cozy space, after the celebration of life of your loved one, you will be helping to provide meals for local families staying at the Ronald McDonald House Hamilton. I can't think of a better way to honor Dalton and serve families at the same time. We can not wait to be able to share this gathering space with all of you in the very near future. Please feel free to share as we are very proud of this new space and all of the good that will come from it.

Losing a loved one is very difficult. While trying to deal with the stress and emotions that follow grief, many people often find that they have very little time to care for themselves. If this is the case for someone you know and love then consider making them a grief care package. You can include items such as coffe or tea, maybe bake them one of your favorite cookie recipes, send some fresh fruits, some items to help them to relax such as a candle or bath soaks and maybe a good book about grief. A care package is a great way to express your love and it shows that you care about their wellbeing. Most importantly, it presents an opportunity for you to check in on them and be there to help them through such a difficult time.
