Leisure Cafe
A board game cafe with a comfortable retro feel designed as a community gathering place.
We're definitely never going to be a Robo Cafe! We like talking to our customers. Strong communities begin with conversations and a sense of belonging. https://theconversation.com/a-rise-in-self-service-technologies-may-cause-a-decline-in-our-sense-of-community-201339?
A rise in self-service technologies may cause a decline in our sense of community Self-service technologies — like self-checkouts or government service kiosks — are decreasing interactions with other people. This may affect our politics and sense of community.

As many of you know, we always add our Eggnog Latte to the menu through December and into January. This year we priced it the same as our regular lattes. Small 12 oz. is $3.75, medium 16 oz. is $4.50 and large 20 oz. is $5.25. This year we also another seasonal espresso based drink, our new Mocha-Mint. They're both worth a try!
With Christmas so close we just wanted to remind our followers that there is still a small selection of new board games remaining as shown in the photo. You can even see a remaining Axis and Allies on the top shelf and some Game of Thrones and expansions. Sale price is reduced 60% off regular retail Price. There is also a collection of pewter photo frames at 66% off and some framed ceramic art pieces at 50% off. There are also a number of leather business card holders with matching key chains (not shown) that make great stocking suffers, also at 50% off. These are new clearance items we picked up to fill some empty shelves. Quantities are limited, so first come first served.

Apparently the police have received numerous calls regarding our building parapet since it was damaged by high winds on December 13th. People were concerned perhaps thinking we hadn't noticed or done anything about it? They didn't realize we had of course taken immediate action after the damage to ensure everyone's safety.
From what we understand, the police were annoyed by the calls, and in turn called the City.
A City building inspector as well as our engineer were very clear there was no danger of anything falling. By way of explanation, everything had fallen back on to the roof and was safely secured.
The plan, as agreed to with our insurance company, was to secure it and have it remedied as soon possible. Despite that plan, the City Building Department insisted the parapet be removed immediately or they would do it at our expense.
So as if as a small business we didn't already have enough to deal with, we had to find someone immediately to remove it (luckily we did). However, it meant the storefront was barricaded today so many thought we were closed.
Just want you to know we're still here, we're open, and the coffee's on! Or better yet, try our Chai Tea Latte if you want something that tastes like Christmas. Happy Holidays!
The extreme winds that began on Saturday evening and lasted through most of Sunday resulted in us losing the entire parapet wall that we restored two years ago (all of the concrete gray coloured elements including the decorative urns at the very top...see the before and after photos). It collapsed, but thank goodness fell backwards onto the roof. It's still laying flat on the roof but will have to be restored. Luckily there was no apparent damage to the roofing or roof structure. The fire department made us vacate the building Sunday morning because they were worried about the structural integrity. We were allowed to return a few hours later, but the Cafe was closed Monday, as was the sidewalk, while the structure was inspected. After the removal of all loose building materials we have reopened the sidewalk to pedestrian traffic and the Cafe will reopen at 9:00am Tuesday.
