« I learned to never forget where you came from. You're not there to look good in a uniform or be the reason people have to show up for a meeting. You're there to make the people on the road feel better about themselves and be more empowered to do their job well. I think if you keep connected to that work, you can offer leadership that makes people realize you understand why you're there. » - Bev Busson, first woman Commissioner of the RCMP
This year the RCMP marks the 50th anniversary of Troop 17, when 32 women from across Canada simultaneously took the oath to become the first RCMP women police officers, fundamentally changing our organization forever.
PROTONITAZEPYNE | On this International Overdose Awareness Day, let's talk about protonitazepyne. Some illicit pills intercepted during the investigation by our police officers resembled legitimate oxycodone pills. However, laboratory analysis showed that, unlike the original drug, the counterfeit tablets contained protonitazèpyne, a synthetic opioid some 25 times more potent than fentanyl.
Opioid overdoses are increasingly prevalent. Naloxone is a safe antidote that temporarily reverses the effects of an overdose. Using it saves lives. ❤️🩹

Handbag and high heels... women in the RCMP had a very different ceremonial dress from that of the men for many years! When they joined the organization in 1974, the original kit issued for women included pillbox hats, purses which had compartments for their revolver, ammunition, and handcuffs, and high heels. It was in the early 90s that they finally received the Red Serge, Stetson, high browns and breeches like their male counterparts. Proof that they can work under any circumstances... A happy 50th anniversary to all the RCMP's female officers! 💪🥳

Having a friend at work can make all the difference, especially in a demanding environment like law enforcement.🚔💼
Friends at work are invaluable, providing moral support, a listening ear and sometimes even a much-needed burst of laughter to ease the pressure. In a police environment, where solidarity and trust are essential, having a friend can strengthen the unity and resilience of the whole team. What about you, do you have a friend at work? 🤝
Cst. Hugron was recently in Chile for the July 1st celebrations, at the request of the Canadian Embassy.
“I met with Chilean police officers (the Carabineros de Chile) and was able to visit their facilities, including the Cenco (the equivalent of our Operational Communications Centre (OCC)). This visit was particularly interesting, as I myself worked for nearly 14 years at the RCMP's OCC in Quebec. I also had the rare privilege of taking a private tour of the presidential palace (Palacio de la Moneda), to which public access is restricted. It was an exceptional trip.” - Cst. Hugron

CFL x RCMP 🏈 | “So what are the values in sports and in particular with respect to football? I think football is the ultimate team sport. It shows us to move ahead of our goals and to accomplish our goals in a way that everybody needs to be involved. And I think football is the ultimate sport which implicates that there's no one more important than another. Everybody is important on the team. And I think that transpires in a lot of spheres in our communities and especially in the workplace.” – Commanding Officer Roach

CFL x RCMP🏈| The RCMP and football have been a team for a long time. Corporal Gallienne bears witness to this. 👇
"I find a lot of similarities with football in my job as a police officer with the RCMP. Even when I was young, I always wanted to become a police officer. I spent more than 12 years of my career in the Maritimes doing contract policing and then federal policing in the province of Quebec. In every sphere of the RCMP I've worked with or been exposed to, football has allowed me to enjoy a certain success. At a very young age I was exposed to teamwork, leadership, rolling up your sleeves and working hard, being respectful of people and protecting the most vulnerable, and not backing down in the face of the challenges life brings." - Cpl. Gallienne

“On June 5, 6 and 7, I had the honour of taking part in ceremonies in France organized by the Canadian government to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day and the Battle of Normandy. I was part of the Ceremonial Troop and kept watch at the various cenotaphs.
It was a very moving trip for me: 80 years ago, along with 21,400 other Canadian soldiers, my grandfather, Lieutenant Walter Moisan, landed at Juno Beach. He had voluntarily enlisted in the Chauds (as they were called by the English), i.e., the Régiment de la Chaudière on Québec City's South Shore, part of the Québec City infantry battalion. So I'm very touched to have been able to honour his memory and the memory of all World War II veterans.

On April 2, 2024, Staff Sergeant Lepage-Simard takes advantage of his day off to work out at the fitness center. Near the treadmills, a man in his thirties collapses to the floor. Alerted, S/Sgt. Lepage-Simard sprang into action and discovered that the victim had no pulse. After calling 911, and with the help of another person, he begins the cardiac massage steps until the firefighters arrive. The man was then placed on a defibrillator and, following the first shock, immediately regained consciousness. He was then evacuated by paramedics.
It was later determined that, without the rapid intervention of our police officer and firefighters, the victim would have died of cardiac arrest. In addition, cardiopulmonary resuscitation maintained blood flow, preventing severe brain damage.
"Seriously, we take a lot of things for granted at work, but today I can confirm that I'm more than grateful to have had CPR training!"
- S/Sgt. Lepage-Simard (on the left)
Members of the RCMP are required to repeat their cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training every three years. Having CPR skills boosts one's confidence and ability to act in an emergency. This kind of training can mean the difference between life and death.
