π§ New water restrictions for Whistler! π§
To help our community adapt to climate change, we have new water restrictions in place from summer 2024.
Due to advancing drought conditions, our water supplies can be at risk. This impacts our drinking water supply and fire protection capabilities during dry summer periods.
New watering schedule:
ποΈ Watering days: Monday, Wednesday and Friday OR Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
β° Timing: In-ground automatic irrigation systems can water for six hours on designated days.
These measures aim to balance water conservation while maintaining our lawns and gardens. Severe restrictions will be implemented only if necessary.

A large portion of a black bear's diet is fruit and berries. As seasons change, different fruits and berries become available including salmonberries, huckleberries, blackberries, raspberries, mountain ash and crabapples.
Mother bears teach cubs what to eat and how to forage. Sows do not know they should not eat berries in backyards or residential areas.
By removing fruits and berries from plants as they ripen, we are removing attractants from residential areas and decreasing opportunities for bears to forage there.
Report sightings of bears around vehicles and properties to the Conservation Officer Service at 1-877-952-7277.

Today we mark Amalgamation Day.
On this day in 1923 sixteen SαΈ΅wxΜ±wΓΊ7mesh villages came together to form the Squamish Nation. Amalgamation united and enabled the success of the Squamish People.
The goal of Amalgamation was to overcome feelings of inequality or disagreement among Squamish People, ensure good government of the Nation, and consolidate all properties, interests, and accounts held in trust into a single entity for the benefit of all, including current and future Members.
Whistler sits on the unceded shared territory of the Squamish Nation and the Lilβwat Nation.
Visit the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre in Whistler to see the new carved house post now standing at the entrance to the SLCC Istken Hall on Lorimer Road. Carved by Master Carver Xwalacktun and Apprentice Brandon Hall, the house post honours the Hereditary Chiefs who came together to form the SαΈ΅wxΜ±wΓΊ7mesh Γxwumixw (Squamish Nation) in 1923. Bear Notice - Shared on behalf of the Conservation Officer Service (COS)
On July 15, the COS attended reports of a black bear inside a home in Emerald Estates.
The same bear had previously entered multiple homes in Alpine Meadows. Due to the risk to public safety, the COS destroyed the bear. Food conditioned bears with minimal fear of people and comfort accessing dwellings are not candidates for rehabilitation or relocation.
Residents are asked to be mindful of open doors and windows on homes, where bears could gain access, and remember to secure attractants such as garbage, pet food and birdseed.
Wildlife conflicts can be reported 24/7 to the COS: 1-877-952-7277.

Bear Alert - Shared on behalf of the Conservation Officer Service (COS)
The Conservation Officer Service (COS) has attended reports of a black bear entering multiple homes in the Alpine Meadows neighborhood of Whistler.
Although temperatures are currently high, this is an important reminder to residents to close and lock windows and doors when not home. Bears have a tremendous sense of smell and could follow the scent of food right into your home.
If you are home with windows open, consider blocking them so they cannot open more than a few inches, especially on ground floors, as bears can enter spaces as small as the size of their heads.
