Over Under Sideways Down!

It's final. There will be no bridge replacing the Massey Tunnel under the Fraser River on HWY 99.

As part of the Highway 99 tunnel program, construction is underway to upgrades to the Highway 99 corridor to make transit more reliable and cycling more accessible.

Soutbound bus lanes are being added to the highway between Highway 17A and the Ladner Trunk Road off-ramp, while northbound lanes will be extended from Ladner Trunk Road to the start of the existing high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane on Highway 99.

The bus lanes will eventually reach through the expanded tunnel.

“This is the first step to provide relief to traffic congestion on the corridor leading to a new eight-lane, toll-free tunnel,” Transportation Minister Rob Fleming said in a statement.

Also due to begin construction this year are a Bridgeport Road bus connection, a multi-use path from the Oak Street Bridge into the Richmond cycling and pedestrian network, and cycling upgrades along Highway 17A.

The work is due for completion next year and may require occasional lane closures that will be announced on DriveBC.ca .

The eight lane tunnel is projected to be completed in 203 with a cost of $4.15 billion dollars.

Anything To Declare?
..yes, I am an idiot

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) remain committed to keeping our communities safe from the smuggling of illicit narcotics. Today, the CBSA and RCMP announced the interception of 100 kilograms of methamphetamine, protecting the safety and security of Canadians.

To start the year the CBSA released the following information complete with pictures.

October 18, 2021, a solo traveller arrived at the Pacific Highway Traffic Operations in Surrey, British Columbia. Border services officers conducted primary screening and as they proceeded to inspect the vehicle, the traveller fled the port of entry at high speed.

The CBSA alerted the RCMP and shortly afterwards, the vehicle was intercepted and the traveller was returned to the port of entry for further examination. Upon inspection of the traveller’s vehicle, border services officers found several large commercially sealed bags containing a white crystalline substance in the trunk. A CBSA detector dog indicated positive for narcotics and the traveller was subsequently arrested for fleeing the port of entry, and smuggling under the Customs Act.
