Monday's....

Another project finished. Water damage recovery and some trim work. The abatement company took a four foot cut. I installed insulation, vapour barrier, and then drywall and trim in this space, including a fun and somewhat challenging double staircase trim. It finished out very nicely, if I do say so myself. Need a large area recovered or filled? Give me a call.

My wife would say "were you wearing your respirator?". The answer is yes...lol

Quick shower clean and recaulk today. Every bit of caulking was soaking wet behind and mouldy. This one may need a day to dry out.

On the surface the caulking in this shower had a few black spot but was mostly still showing "good"

Does your drywall and Painting contractor claim "Dust free" working?

Well I'm here to educate you. The second phase of drywall mudding, and the first phase of painting prep involves sanding...loads of sanding.

While some guys wet sand, I dry sand. I use a vacuum attached to most of my sanding tools to help reduce dust, and a low dust compound...but dust is an inevitable part of the process. So when they say "dust free" what they are actually saying is "we clean up after ourselves."

You get to pay a premium for that "extra" service.

The first picture below, shows me vaccuming up the last of my prep dust for a paint job I'm on. And this isn't even where I'm working, and after vaccum use. Fine dust escapes the various process 100% of the time. I always clean up in between processes...no extra charge, and I don't classify this as a premium feature.

I will never claim to be dust free, but you can always expect to not pay a premium for my cleanup. I will often leave spaces cleaner than I found them.

Big job just finished. 75 gallons of paint, 20 feet in the air. Air spray application. Big commercial gig to get things going this year. Another Happy Customer! This deck needed some TLC. The semi transparent stain was incorrectly applied previously and was peeling. I needed to powerwash sand and mechically clear debris from the decking, change out a few boards and reapply the penetrating semi transparent stain. All while fall is on full strength. The falling leaves were a nuisance, but we got there in the end. The "before" picture shows the deck post powerwash. The "after" pictures shows the leaf debris settling on the deck after it dried.

Can't seem to understand why it took me this long to think of putting these two things together for drywall patch sanding. Just did a whole kitchen in about 5 minutes with minimal dust on the floor. Makes my patch service even quicker!

Fun project. Demo is always fun. In this case my client didn't want this pool and poorly constructed pool deck anymore. Took me less than 8 hours to completely disassemble the deck into its component parts. Most of the lumber will be repurposed by the homeowners into garden beds, planter boxes, and patio furniture.

I don't normally like to point out others deficiencies, but this deck was very poorly constructed. Which made it terribly unsafe. From the steps on metal stringers being incorrectly and unsafely mounted, to half built and unfinished elements. This caused alot of out loud "what the #$_& is this?" Needless to say, It was a joy and a breeze to disassemble.

I haven't posted in awhile, but I'm still here! This spring has been especially busy. Many posts to come. In the mean-time here is picture of a beautiful cappuccino a client made for me on a recent job. Frothed steamed milk and all. It sure put a pep in my step!

Off sick until next week. Looks like my child brought home a present of pestilence from school. If I don't respond to calls and emails right away I'm probably sleeping.

Highlighting a small fix on an ongoing project today. A nice family recently purchased a freshly "renovated" home. Sadly, the original installer of these corner bead elements cut corners and didn't secure the product properly, causing an unsightly surface failure. Now comes yours truly to add the missing screws and remud. On the inside corner, they didn't properly fasten the drywall, or tape the seams. Mayhem! Making it right for another customer. Fun project. Just completed a dramatic board and batten wall for a nice young family! It posed a few challenges, but the finished result is stunning. The home owner chose a random design of varying battens and the darkest blue I've ever painted.

Sometimes I'm only a small part of a bigger picture. Below are images from one of my latest collaborations. A nursery needed to be made from existing space. The homeowner framed the room in, I did the board/mud and taping of the room, along with a good priming. They will do the rest. Can't wait to see the finished room!
