"Back in Grade 12, my World Affairs club held a candrive during the holiday season. I wanted to give back to my community so I decided to go out and collect some cans; only expecting to collect around 100 max. The candrive lasted around four weeks, so each week I continued to collect more and bring it to school. By the end of the can drive, I collected close to 1000 cans in which I’m still very proud of today. I won an iPad mini, but to be quite honest that was the least exciting part. The most exciting part was knowing that I was able to help out families in my community during the holiday season and bring food on the table for those who may not be able to afford it."

"Since We Day's inception, Free the Children has donated approximately 7.6 million pounds of food to local food banks." Thanks to all those who came out to support our bake sale last week! We hope to see you at our next event.

The Water Challenge 03/15/2015

The Water Challenge - http://thewaterproject.org/thewaterchallenge

Hey everyone, for anyone who is interested, The Water Challenge is a fun and challenging initiative that goes towards a great cause.

The idea is that once you get your wristband you commit yourself to drinking only water for two straight weeks! So when you go out and normally would buy a drink in this period, you get water instead, add up all the savings by the end of the two weeks and they go towards funding new water projects in impoverished countries in Africa, such as Sierra Leone, Sudan, Rwanda and Uganda.

I think it would be a cool and fun idea for us to come together for the challenge - it's tough but it's worth it! Is there anyone who would be interested in starting with me?

Hello Everyone!

On Saturday, December 6, 2014 the Womyn's Centre will be hosting a memorial and reception as part of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.

The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women is a day to remember and reflect on the horrific massacre that took place at L'Ecole Polytechnique on December 6, 1989. This year marks the 25th anniversary that an armed man entered the institution and murdered 14 women under the guise of "fighting feminists."

The event will start at 4:30 PM with a candlelight vigil at the Memorial of Hope on the University of Windsor Campus (located between Dillon Hall and Essex Hall), followed by a reception in Katzman Hall, located in Vanier Hall at approximately 5:00 PM.

This event is free and open to all members of the UWindsor community and Windsor/Essex community, and all are encouraged to attend. Additionally, we encourage everyone who has purchased a purple scarf from the Shine the Light Campaign to wear their scarves as it symbolizes awareness of Domestic Violence and Violence Against Women.
