GATA Network Series Workshop: Experiences of an International GA/TA: Challenges and Opportunities

International students are a core part of the University of Windsor, but have you ever considered the challenges and opportunities that international GA/TAs face? This workshop will shed some light on the challenges that international GA/TAs have to reconcile and how these challenges can be overcome. Moreover, various opportunities that international GA/TAs create at the University will be explored. Attendees are encouraged to share reflections on their experience as an international GA/TA, particularly their challenges and strategies for overcoming them with the group. Participants will gain tips and will be provided with some resources that can support international GA/TAs.

As a GATA Network Coordinator, the candidate will play a lead role in developing personal and professional development opportunities for graduate assistants and teaching assistants. Responsibilities include planning and coordinating the development of the GATA Network, working with various departments to promote a learning-centred culture on campus, and contributing to training, orientation, and mentorship.

Nominations are invited for GA/TA Awards
The Centre for Teaching and Learning is calling for nominations for the GA/TA Awards for Educational Practice (up to 2 will be awarded) and the GA/TA Award for Educational Leadership (1 award) recognizing contributions that graduate and undergraduate teaching assistants make to the University of Windsor’s learning environment. The GA/TA Awards for Educational Practice and the GA/TA Award for Educational Leadership aim to:
· recognize and honour exemplary GAs and TAs who contribute to a positive, learning-centred environment at the University;
· inspire GAs and TAs to recognize their potential for excellence in educational practice and/or leadership, and motivate them to transform that potential into reality; and
· publicize examples of excellence in GA/TA educational practice and leadership that can inform the practices of all teachers, while contributing to student and faculty pride in teaching and learning at the University of Windsor.

The University of British Columbia welcomes proposals featuring best teaching and learning practices, new resources, innovative approaches, discussion of critical issues, presentation of research, and work-in-progress.
Session format includes: interactive sessions; round table discussions; and SoTL/TAR presentations.
All proposals will be evaluated using a blind peer-review process.
Results will be available by April 15.

A two-day professional development event open to UWindsor graduate (GA) and undergraduate (TA) teaching assistants (GAs). Each day will offer three interactive workshops led by new and experienced GAs/TAs, as well as other professionals from across the campus.

Are you are graduate student looking to put together a teaching dossier or refine the one you already have? If so, you’re invited to join the GATA Network’s Teaching Dossier Community of Practice (CoP) for Graduate Students. Members of the CoP will meet in-person on a monthly basis throughout the Winter 2023 semester to discuss, review, and share knowledge about teaching dossiers. Additionally, participants will be provided with optional self-paced modules and resources that can be utilized to start or refine an existing teaching dossier. All meetings will be facilitated by the GATA Network and are intended to provide graduate students an opportunity to meet, interact, and collaborate.
