Scam alert! Someone is impersonating my business. I am not hiring. Do not send any personal info.

Beware. A scammer is sending out job applications for my shop. I AM NOT HIRING! I have not given anyone permission to interview or the authority to hire. Several people have contacted me already saying they received a job offer via Facebook and email. The scammers asked six interview questions and even sent victims tha fake cheque- signed the Minister of Finance if you can believe, and a fake letter of employ. Please contact police immediately if you have been contacted. Whatever you do, do not cash the cheque it is fake and do not send scammers any gift cards. This is a horrible scam being perpetuated by those stealing the identity of people in different parts of Canada and then using my business name and address. I suggest you contact the police and/ or Canadian Anti-Fraud unit.

How does a fraudster use impersonation as a tool?
Fraudsters impersonate anyone you can think of to trick you into sending money or information
In cases of spear phishing, such as business email compromise, fraudsters study emails and interactions between employees so they can better impersonate someone
What's in your toolbox?
Never trust that a message is from who the sender says they are, especially when it comes with a request for sending something
Verify the person's identity by either searching for their information online, talking to them in person if you know them, or asking them questions only the real person would know

Volunteers are critical to the success of our event. Pillette Village BIA appreciates your help. If you’re interested in volunteering for this event – whether you have prior experience or just want to help out, please read the requirements and fill out our online form on this page.

*Please note we do not provide travel to/from or accommodations for the event.

ALL VOLUNTEERS WILL:
• When off duty, Volunteers can shop at the Pillette Village Street Sale
• Snacks and refreshments during shifts
• Invaluable volunteer hours and first hand work experience
• A chance to be part of the community

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS:
• You must be at least 16 years of age or older
• You must be available for an interview and orientation meetings if you are accepted as a volunteer
• You must be available to work a 6 hour shift at the event
• Volunteers are required to dress casually: no ripped jeans, short shorts or skirts, offensive shirts, etc.
• Must be courteous to co-workers & volunteers will practice clean personal hygiene
