Ho, Ho, Hold On a Minute - A Word about Employer Xmas Parties...

It's the time of year when Employers often throw holiday parties for employees. Alcohol is often served, and although the consumption of free libations can lead to cheer, it can lead to disastrous consequences for the employee and consequently the employer.
I advise my clients who throw such parties where alcohol is served, to proactively and vigilantly ensure that all precautions are taken when it comes to ensuring the health of the attendees. This includes but is not limited to, having dedicated and trained persons serving alcohol and making easily accessible FREE transportation to all invitees who are consuming alcohol. Employers are often found responsible by courts when employees are injured as a result of becoming intoxicated at a holiday party where alcohol was made available by the employer. If the road to hell is paved with good intentions, the road to a significant court judgment against you is lubricated with alcohol. Employers, be proactive and responsible. Ensuring safe consumption and transportation for your employees is well worth the cost. Safe and happy holidays to all.
