Had a blast playing for the students and teachers of Maverick High School this morning! It is such an amazing school, with wonderful students and great teachers!

And TONIGHT we’ll be playing at Living Sky Casino at 7:30pm. Come out to hear some music by Dohnanyi, Piazzolla, Paul Wiancko, Karen Sunabacka, Composer, and some Métis and Danish fiddle tunes!

One thing we've been premiering around the Prairies for the past year is this wonderful piece by Karen Sunabacka, Composer. It was commissioned by the Manitoba Arts Council / Conseil des arts du Manitoba and very much supported by Prairie Debut.

We had asked Karen she would write a piece for us based on a fiddle tune or two, which she was more than happy to do, given her interest in exploring her Métis heritage through music. She told us she spent a lot of time on her grandparents' farm, listening to and playing fiddle tunes (AND she's a cellist!). Blending classical and folk/fiddle tunes is one of our favourite things to do, so we were thrilled!

Aaaaand we’re back! After a short hiatus, where Jessie Ramsay got married, John Sellick moved to Thunder Bay to play principal viola for the year, and Alyssa Ramsay started back with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra after maternity leave, we are all back in Winnipeg, rehearsing away!

We’ve got a concert coming up in Swift Current, Saskatchewan on January 12th, so if you’re in the area, we’d love to see you there!

Hello everyone!

This Sunday, we're going to premiere a new video of a well-loved song, one that holds a special spot in the heart of John Sellick (although Jessie and I do love it as well). The original writer of the song was known to drive along Portage Ave in Winnipeg in his hearse, which carried all his gear and was named Mortimer Hearseburg. Any guesses as to what this song might be, or who wrote it?

Just feeling so thankful for all the opportunities Prairie Debut is giving us - recording Karen Sunabacka’s piece (sound and video), performing for some wonderful kids and at a senior’s home in Killarney, Manitoba today, with more school performances in Hamiota, Manitoba and Reston, Manitoba tomorrow, and in Neepawa, Manitoba on Wednesday!

We're so sorry to have to postpone our Regina concert!! The date is TBD but hopefully we'll get a date sorted out soon. We may feel done with the pandemic, but it is not quite done with us.

We are so thankful to have been able to go on such a wonderful tour put on by Prairie Debut, and all of their sponsors! It was such a treat performing for prairie audiences of all ages, and we loved meeting people who love music as much as we do.

We had such a blast performing in Steinbach, MB, this past Saturday, having driven through pouring rain and too many potholes turned craters, as well as the first thunderstorm of the season (as did our audience!). Not only did we get to perform for a very full house in the historic Mennonite Heritage Village, but also for some super friendly residents at Fernwood Place. Huge thanks to the Steinbach Arts Council and Prairie Debut for making it happen!

Indigo Trio | 2021-22 Season Concert Celebrating the spirit and resilience of the Canadian West with a lively Prairie Suite program designed to inspire and refresh audiences.

We are so excited to announce that we received a grant from the Manitoba Arts Council for a commissioned work by the incredible Métis composer, Karen Sunabacka! In addition, we will be working with local Indigenous fiddlers to learn the original Métis fiddle tunes that Karen will be basing the piece off of. There may even be dancing involved...

Anyways, we are so thankful for this opportunity and can't wait to perform her work!
