Seriously the absolute BEST part of my professional life is helping couples find the perfect ring(s) to express their love and commitment.
I get SO much fulfillment and joy from helping couples reach this point in their journey.
Maybe I’m feeling all this a little more with my own wedding coming up at the end of this summer… but I can’t think of a single thing I’ve done professionally through three distinctly different careers that is more profound than this.

Pride Month is nearly here and while I am personally a cis gendered straight white (presenting) male I assure you that I welcome all and will treat all with the respect and dignity due. I have helped a wide range of couples find their perfect engagement and wedding jewelry.
The jewelry industry has had VERY defined gender lines in its designs but, as an estate jeweller, I have 120 years of styles and trends in inventory to draw from… I am confident that I can help you find the perfect ring for you to express your love and commitment to your perfect person.

Sad news today from a story on the CBC. The oldest business on our block is closing down. We’ve been here for 47 years… Peking Chinese for 54… Corydon Hardware for 75!

Both of us are generational businesses. Both Rob and I took over ownership of our respective family business around the same time 20 years ago. Both of us from legendary fathers who set the bar high for. It’s a unique experience and perspective we both have. I know how hard this decision must be for him. Then again I also understand what it’s like to be in retail forever and maybe it’s not THAT difficult 😉

The senseless and random murder of Ivan Rubanik is an absolute tragedy. Escaped war torn Ukraine with his wife and children only to be killed walking to work in Winnipeg.

Far too many senseless losses of life happen in my city… this one just hit me a lot harder than most.

Another scam warning.

Customer brought in some ‘gold’ jewelry for me to check. He bought it from a couple in the parking lot of the Portage and Banning Shoppers. They were apparently very convincing with their sob story. Unfortunately all of it was fake (stamped 14 and 18 but absolutely fake). Heavy chain, bracelet and two rings.

Be wary people… another case if it’s too good to be true… it very like is.

I have just been informed of a job scam somebody is pulling using our company name and logo. In this case it was for a virtual private assistant.

For the record, we are not hiring.

Ron was a legend in the antique world. He and my father met many decades ago and ever since their first deal they formed a long lasting friendship and deep mutual respect. Their biggest joy in that friendship was trying to out negotiate the other. Ron's visits to the shop were always entertaining... for all three of us.

Rest in peace Ron, we will miss you.

Good grief… just when you think you’re winning the plows come. Swipe for the after and a sight line of where the curb really is opposed to where they plow to. If you ever wonder why Corydon gets even narrower in the winter this is why. , you need to monitor your contractors better to make sure they’re getting closer to the curbs here… it’s a safety issue with busses and trucks going by each other here on Corydon.

SO many options for gifts this season and prices from budget friendly to high end luxury. Easy access too with the best shovelled sidewalk in the city and customer parking behind the store as well.

With the impending winter storm we will be closed from Wednesday through this coming holiday Friday. We’ll hopefully be there Saturday.

We understand that provincial mandates for masks indoors and self-isolation are coming to an end.

Given the close quarters our interactions entail we’re not comfortable with that change so we will be continuing with masks in the shop and on house calls for the time being.

We are also asking that if you or a close contact has shown symptoms consistent with COVID in the past 4 weeks you wait for a while before coming into the shop.

We have some very important and personal reasons for continuing with these protocols, we appreciate and anticipate your cooperation and understanding.
