Green Line Hose & Fittings Ltd. would like to take this opportunity to honour the life of our founder Mr. R. Ivor Dunham who passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on Saturday, November 11, 2023 in Qualicum Beach, British Columbia.

Born in England, in 1928, Ivor studied and graduated as a mechanical engineer. Early in his career, he worked at British Ermeto, a tube fitting company, which would foreshadow his future forays into hose and fittings. However, the bureaucracy of working for a British company as well as the poor economic landscape in the UK encouraged Ivor to emigrate, and so with the support of his wife Jean, Ivor and his young family began the process of moving to Canada.

Upon his arrival in 1957, and with his previous experience in tube fittings, Ivor was able to find work at Dietrich Collins selling Aeroquip Hydraulics. During his time there, he was approached by a Japanese trading company, Kuriyama, to sell industrial rubber and PVC products, but Dietrich management opted to stick with heavy equipment sales. Ivor recognized the opportunity to become his own boss and, in 1967, established Green Line Sales Ltd in Vancouver, BC.

Many of Ivor’s ideals about how a business should run persist within Green Line today. He valued supplier partnerships (Kuriyama – our very first supplier and still a key supplier today) and exceptional customer service – a point illustrated by Coast Industrial Parts, one of our very first customers until they were purchased in 2014 and became Green Line Hose & Fittings in Victoria, BC. Furthermore, Green Line’s part numbering system is owed completely to Ivor. The structure and forethought of our nomenclature has allowed us to grow and add new products all while staying true to the format laid out so many years ago.

It is difficult to know if Ivor would have ever anticipated the success Green Line has had since its humble beginnings. However, throughout his life, and even near the end, Green Line continued to be a source of immense pride for Ivor.

We are all forever grateful for his legacy.
