I am enjoying a much needed break after completing my role at . I learned so much coordinating 400+ events in 15 months. I will miss seeing some wonderful people everyday but I know they will carry on with the hard work ahead.
Please consider donating to help Ron buy a new harpsichord. His instrument was lost in the St Anne fire on Sunday. I had the pleasure of working with him and this community organization dedicated to performing early music when I lived in Toronto. I will never forget performing my first oboe da caccia performance of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with GBC.

This wonderful man will retire from at the end of this season. Last weekend we celebrated 35 years of his incredible artistic and behind the scenes contributions. I am honoured to have been part of his journey and so glad to have been there to hear “Brandenburg 11” and reconnect again after 5 years. Don’t worry, John hasn’t quit oboe yet, he will still direct the - happening next weekend - and teach at this summer. I’m so grateful for this brief time together. Swipe for all 3 U of T baroque oboe grads and donuts made at by and yours truly.
I am so impressed with this incredible duo! Imagine if all kids learned rhythm like this in public school…
This year we celebrated our anniversary the way we spent our wedding day—with friends, family, donuts, and dashing to concert venues to make music together—this time singing, conducting, and managing two choral concerts. I am so lucky to live this life with such a multi-talented, punny, and donut-loving guy.
This concert has been in the works the past few months and it has been such a pleasure to work on such beautiful music. The choir has made huge strides and we are excited to share this music. We are paying homage to our beloved planet earth and singing about all our favourite things about it. I’ll be conducting works by Frank Ticheli, Sir Joseph Barnby, and Randall Thompson. We are at a different venue this time, so make sure you come to Bethel! Tickets are $20, but if that cost is a barrier please reach out.
Introducing my favourite people to make music with: the incredible Dorcas Windsor and Vijay Chalasani 🥰We played some of our favourite music for the Centre for Christian Studies graduation ceremony a few weks ago.
Saying it louder: Women 👏Composers👏is 👏NOT 👏a 👏concert 👏theme👏
Bringing back this reminder I shared in my Instagram stories 2 years ago because we still have a lot of work to do!
The text in the photo says:
Happy 🤍 When planning concerts, remember that “women composers” is not a theme. Program music by women all year round! Same goes for inviting guest artists/speakers into the classroom/workplace; invite a diverse selection of guests all year round!”

The last Reindeer King show 3/3 is this afternoon with these great musicians and cast! It’a been a great experience working with John Erskine on the music for this new musical and enjoying the company of the Westworth family. Last show starts at 2:30pm — you will laugh, you might cry, and you will definitely see geese fly!👀🎻🎹🎶🪿🦌🤴
What a great day for choral music! It is not often that one hears a premiere of a new piece for choir by Stephanie Martin — let alone for choir and oboe! An Evening Triptych is a great new addition to the repertoire for solo oboe and choir. Robin MacMillan played beautifully, causing overtones to ring throughout the church and the created a gorgeous blended and organ-like sound that is a distinctive marker of Steph’s compositional style (in my humble opinion). I hope to play it someday…it’s now on the bucket list! Stephanie Martin Music
This is such a relevant article about what many artists struggle with daily, myself included. I agree that it shouldn’t have to be this way, but our career paths are very personal and often discovered blindly moving forward with truckloads of courage and faith.
Art of the Day Job » Early Music America If you earn a living away from music, are you still a professional musician? There are many paths to a balanced career and life, but singers are often reluctant to speak about them.

All smiles after a fantastic week playing Mahler in this excellent oboe section! It’s so special to play with Tracy since I own her former oboe—and it’s always a treat to play with another Laubin oboe! saved the day lending Yevhenii “Jimboe” the English Horn who sounded lovely, especially in the low register. Real talk—I was nervous to take on this challenging program this month since I am moving tomorrow… but I am so glad and proud that I made the time to make it work. It is such a privilege to make music. It is also such hard work. My days are always brighter when I do both. Thanks for inviting me to be part of this very special project with and

We hear your concerns about the former KWS Youth Orchestra program, and we have an update. Below is a message from Matthew Jones, the conductor of the Senior Youth Orchestra and Junior Strings.
"We are delighted to herald the first rehearsal of the former Youth Orchestra of the Kitchener Waterloo Symphony taking place Sunday afternoon Sept 24th 1PM - 3:30PM at Wilfrid Laurier University.
This important development has only been made possible due to the pledges of so many musicians and stakeholders to “pay it forward” and invest in an organization that has the young musicians of our community at its heart.
The incredible support from ALL our coaches and mentors and community partners has allowed us to nurture these precious ensembles: Preludium Strings, Junior Strings, Youth Sinfonia and the Senior Youth Orchestra while avoiding the burden of additional fees to our families as the financial complexities of their situation continue to work themselves out.
It is gratifying to see that it is not necessary to articulate a case for supporting the youth of our community and indeed the future of the performing arts in our city. The youth orchestra experience provides team building and leadership experiences, orchestral and ensemble training, and inspires our students and audiences alike with the gift of earnest and heartwarming performances.
This is only the beginning of the Youth Orchestra’s transition. It is our hope that our community of young musicians of today and those of tomorrow might be able to continue to count on your ongoing support all as we seek to build a strong and resilient organization to continue this important mission.
A Youth Orchestra Committee that will serve our young musicians is going to require the help of thoughtful and committed individuals as we ponder key questions about our shared future. I hope those of you with experience and skills our youth orchestra might benefit from are inspired to serve at this critical time."
