The speeches not only included the historic friendship between China and Canada, but also expressed great anticipation for more frequent and deeper cultural exchanges between the two countries in the future. This event allowed everyone to experience the power of inclusive and diverse cultures, inspiring Chinese Canadians to collaborate for the betterment of our shared home.

On July 1, 2024, WCCCC represented Winnipeg and completed the event "Coast to Coast Drumming" successfully with several cities across Canada. Even the weather was rainy and overcast, the inclement weather did not dampen the enthusiasm of volunteers and guests who eagerly joined our event, making the drumming celebration lively and colorful. The WCCCC extends gratitude to all cooperating community organizations, volunteers, and guests. The successful completion of this event is a result of the concerted efforts of all participants. We thank everyone for their longstanding efforts in promoting understanding, exchange, and integration of multiculturalism. Your enthusiastic participation is a significant force in continuously strengthening the deep friendship between China and Canada.

Grow the Game Winnipeg Jets – Apna Hockey Winter First Shift
The First Shift programs will offer all participants to opportunity to take part in a learn to play program for the sport of hockey. The program will provide all participants a full set of equipment as well as six on-ice sessions taking place on Saturday afternoons this fall or winter at no cost to the participant. The goal of the program is to provide a fun and safe atmosphere for participants and their families to try the sport of hockey. All sessions will take place at Seven Oaks Arena, with equipment fitting taking place at hockey for all centre prior to the first on-ice session in January. The program is open to participants born between January 1, 2013, and May 1, 2018.
The programs will see Jets Hockey Development partner with Apna Hockey to provide an engaging experience for all that attend. Apna Hockey is a South Asian based hockey network that aspires to connect and mentor South Asian hockey talent. Apna Hockey is not limited to South Asians, they encourage all Canadians to participate in Apna Hockey camps. Multiculturalism is a beautiful aspect of our country, and we envision Apna Hockey to bring out players of all ethnicities and backgrounds. Apna’s ground breaking work in Edmonton and Calgary has laid the foundation for growing the game of hockey through introducing the sport and mentoring young players with diverse backgrounds. Their success has been noticed across North America, with the organization winning the 2020 NHL Willie O’Ree Community Hero Award for their work.
Once registration is complete participants will be split into two groups with one group on the ice from 12:30pm – 1:30pm and the second from 1:45pm – 2:45pm. All participants are asked to arrive 45 minutes early the first week to ensure enough time to put on equipment.

Tomorrow, Honourable Senator Yuen Pau Woo, the Honourable Senator Victor Oh and Action! Chinese Canadians Together (ACCT) Foundation will be hosting a National Remembrance event in the Senate of Canada Chamber on the 100th anniversary of the enactment of the Chinese Exclusion Act in Canada.
This event is an opportunity to recognize the longstanding relationship between Chinese Canadians and Indigenous Peoples in Canada, to enhance a sense of pride and belonging, and to take action against racism.
Join the event via livestream from the Senate of Canada. Community leaders from across the country will be in Ottawa to acknowledge this racist act and to move forward to creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive space for all Canadians on the land of the Indigenous Peoples. Canada’s history is far from pure, but we look ahead to hope, understanding, reconciliation.

WCCCC board member sits on the Winnipeg Jets Advisory Board and has been working with them on a Grow the Game Initiative with Asian, Filipino and South East Asian kids. They rolled out our first camp May 10-June 14 with great success.

Students submitted 30 entries to the contest and wowed us with their creativity.
