In post-pandemic Canada, public understanding of labour conditions will be largely shaped by media 📱
In this article by Acadia professors Elisabeth Rondinelli (Sociology), Rachel K. Brickner (Politics), and Rebecca Casey (Sociology), conditions for the working-class, women, and racialized people are highlighted as having been disproportionately deemed "essential" – and as the least likely groups to have access to paid sick leave. We know that showing up for our communities in meaningful ways makes us , and we're committed to a future of work that's safe, equitable, and centres the voices of workers in the stories that are being amplified by the media.
So, we'd like to know - do you belong to one of the groups mentioned above that have been deemed essential during the pandemic?

There's a provincial election! Lots of ways to get involved (and collect passport stamps)!
• Talk to your friends and family about the provincial issues that are important to you;
• Work at the polls: Elections Nova Scotia is looking for 2000 poll workers. This is a great way to learn about the mechanics of administering elections. Contact the returning officer in your district for info;
• Volunteer for a campaign: Whether you’re Green, Liberal, NDP, or PC, the candidate in your district could probably use help with canvassing, making phone calls, delivering signs, and more.
• Vote, of course!
Are you getting involved in the election? Let us know!
