It definitely hasn't been easy, but here we are. Not only just alive, but STILL kicking! There's been many ups & downs (and downs and downs and downs), multiple people that have come & gone in my life. Some I thought would never leave, and some I'm blessed they did 😄 Through it all I have been shaken & rattled at times. I've felt alone. Unheard. Sometimes even broken. I've questioned my pursuit of all this. I had no plan, but I had a vision. I've learned that even if you did have a plan, life happens. But... I've also continued to persevere. I've navigated the rough waters. Even when I think I'm drowning. I've reinforced trusting in myself. In believing in ME. In gaining a deeper understanding that IN SPITE of not being dealt the "right cards", I'm gonna do this anyways. I wanna thank me for being me. But most of all, I wanna thank YOU for coming along for this ride. For the "strangers" who send words of encouragement. For the ones who stick around. And I even wanna thank the ones who left. It's funny because it's true. If you're relying on your cardio for your fat loss, you're already fighting a losing battle. Obviously you burn calories during cardio, I'm just saying it's really not an efficient use of your time if that's the goal. As an example, a plain Timmy's bagel with cream cheese is 345 cals. You'd have to walk approx 96mins to burn that off!! 😱😱 A solid nutrition plan is obvious, since we've all heard "you can't out train a bad diet". But also, hear me out: - strength training maintains (or possibly even increases) muscle mass during a fat loss phase - the more muscle you have, the more "toned" your appearance & the more insulin receptors you will have - more insulin receptors makes it easier to maintain more balanced blood sugar levels, more glucose or "carb tolerance", and raising the # of calories you burn daily (aka increased metabolism) - high insulin leads to the development of chronic inflammation & reduction in bone density (both which can be improved with strength training) In the end, prioritizing nutrition & strength training should make up the bulk of your training. While "cardio" does have some benefits, relying on it for fat loss will typically just lead to frustration at the volume of training required to really see any progress. I'm at a loss. I don't even know what to say. This experience has brought some great people into my life. I've also lost some along the way. I've had people I didn't even know give me more support than "friends" or "family" ever did. Friends that become strangers. Strangers that become friends. There's been ups. There's been downs. Start, get knocked down, restart, only to be knocked down again. But you know what doesn't happen? I. WON'T. STOP. With so much going on in the world, it's not lost on me what it means to still be standing after all of this. Unplanned from the beginning. Life circumstances handing me a situation with one simple (yet difficult) task: SINK OR SWIM Is it luck? Maybe. Tenacity? Perhaps. Stubbornness? You bet your ass that's up there! But one thing's for sure: I couldn't have done any of this if it wasn't for any of you who have allowed me to be a part of YOUR life & have trusted me to be a part of your journey. This is ALL I do, and my commitment to this is as high as it's ever been. I've got big plans for this year, filled with almost a sort of assurance that this WILL be the year for that next step. I know I don't wanna do it alone. But I also know that nothing can stop me from doing it anyways. That's the message I want you to take away from this. Don't worry if THEY don't believe in you. Day 1 in the books for the boy as well 🥊 This was the big finish to the 1hr training breaking in the new @kimurawear boxing gloves & Muay Thai pads. Most of the session I'm telling him what to do (which is always fun #amirite 😂) so he's really loving the freestyle I've had him do a few times now & it's been such a moment for me to watch him analyze & evolve his combinations & work his angles to try to figure out better positioning to make it work. We don't get a whole lot of these moments so I'm glad to have the opportunity to not only train together but also share the methodology & philosophy - the WHY behind what we do. Mindset, perseverance, and the discipline of consistency. The bonding & watching him as he matures into a man. #thelittlethings Day 1 of 2022. Bring it.
