For the 76-5002, Colani came up with a unique design that was way ahead of its time: the temples rotate inwards thanks to a unique mechanism. This kind of folding design has been re-discovered and marketed as revolutionary by contemporary European designers, making the 76-5002 a true piece of design avant-garde. But the real stand-out element is the aerodynamic fin on the nosebridge, perfectly echoing the nasal curve.

This very rare and absolutely unique piece comes from the second era of Japanese made Colani eyewear: After a long collaboration with the manufacturer Optos, Colani made a very short production run with the iconic Murai manufacture who designed and produced all of Jean Paul Gaultier’s masterpieces from the 1980-1990 era.

„The natural world is made up of curved lines“. Luigi Colani was the master of organic design, he was inspired by shapes and forms he’d find in nature: „The fusion of function, rationality and human nature“ which Colani called „Bio-Technic Design“.

The translucent brown frame is made of a polycarbonate composite. Another technological break-through that was overlooked back in the 1990s and is now celebrated in contemporary sports eyewear.

Pierre Cardin was the first designer to create a fashion line bearing his own name. This highly wearable museum piece is fitted with brand new anti-reflective dark green G-15 lenses. Beautiful light gray translucid acetate.

The Briko Shot 2 is undoubtedly one of the boldest and most recognizeable 1990s cycling frames. Ever since Oakley was taken over by Luxottica and hence became an Italian company, we tend to forget that Oakley’s fiercest competitors on the cycling circuit were Italian as well: Rudy Project and Briko, the most underrated sports eyewear company ever. Made famous in the 1990s by the legendary Mario «Cipo» Cipollini, the Briko Shot is an amazing sports frame with a design that perfectly merges style and functionality. The unique nose guard makes it even more special, and the rotational temples were a revolutionary innovation at the time. Cipollini was noted for his sprinting ability, the longevity of his dominance (his first pro win came in 1988, his last in 2005, for 170 professional wins in total) and his colorful personality. He famously wore Briko frames during the season when he was caught smoking and having breakfast during official races.

Plated with a thick layer of 22K Gold (5 micrometres), the Cartier River might be one of the last iconic frames produced by Cartier in their traditional workshop close to Paris. This was the place where the Vendôme and Must designs sparked a new era of luxury eyewear in 1983 which remains unequaled in terms of quality, craftsmanship and design. From the early classics to the legendary Composite models Diabolo, Vitesse and later designs incorporating Bubinga wood like Malmaison, Giverny and Bagatelle, this was the place where the magic happened. The last iconic piece of that era just might be the River C-Decor. Incorporating the classic C logo on the temples, it is complemented with an elegant square front. A true jewel of eyewear design, the craftsmanship is absolutely breathtaking.
