Making mulled wine with bark from trees may sound strange to many. But in fact, cinnamon is just that - bark from a tree. At the end of August, smallholders from the Mitsinjo cooperative of our Malagasy partner PREMIUM SPICES loaded fresh Ceylon cinnamon into trucks. Turmeric, also known as yellow ginger, is mainly recognized as an important component in curry mixtures. But the root can do much more - among other things, turmeric is believed to have a healing effect. This is how we stay healthy during the cold season. Sonigiema school project / foundation concreting
A new school for Sonigiema - and 200% more cocoa beans from Sierra Leone Our cocoa bean producer Lizard Earth from Sierra Leone is currently using our 2019 Christmas donation to rebuild the school in the cocoa village of Sonigiema. Originally, the school was only supposed to be renovated. However, during this rainy season, the existing school was practically completely washed away. Since then, it has not only been a question of renovation, but also of a complete new building. We are happy that our donation is now being used after all, despite the long (Corona) delay - and that the villagers are actively helping! By the way: Our cocoa producer Lizard Earth from Sierra Leone was able to increase cocoa yields by about 200% to 75 tonnes this year - as always with Lizard Earth with great involvement of the population and with a strong focus on the environment and development. Ursprünglich sollte die Schule lediglich renoviert werden. In dieser Regenzeit jedoch wurde die bestehende Schule praktisch komplett weggespült. Darum ging es seither nicht nur um eine Renovation, sondern gleich um einen kompletten Neubau. Wir freuen uns, dass unsere Spende nun trotz grosser (Corona-)Verzögerung doch noch zum Einsatz kommt – und die Dorfbevölkerung tatkräftig mithilft! Übrigens: Unser Kakaoproduzent Lizard Earth aus Sierra Leone konnte die Kakaoerträge dieses Jahr um rund 200% auf 75 Tonnen steigern – wie immer bei Lizard Earth unter grossartigem Einbezug der Bevölkerung und mit starkem Fokus auf Umwelt und Entwicklung.
