This book is a great starting point when planning to leverage data, analytics, and AI for your project management practice.
Getting to data-driven project delivery is no rocket science.
But it requires leadership to overcome the cultural barriers.
Typical blockers like:
→ Fixed mindsets baked into practice over the years
→ Biased behaviors specific to project management
→ Missing transparency and openness
→ Knowledge silos and lack of data sharing
→ Lack of diverse and critical thinking ..
My book "Leading Projects with Data" helps leaders to understand the typical behavioral and cultural blockers and how to address and overcome them to ensure the effective use of data in projects.

GREAT NEWS: "Leading Projects with Data" is now available for pre-order on Amazon and select bookstores.
If you are keen to dive into data and analytics for the project management practice, then the starting point should be to get into the right mindset and build a cultural and behavioral foundation to make this journey successful.
Data and analytics clearly have the potential to significantly lift the performance of projects, make projects more reliable and efficient, and improve delivery effectiveness to achieve an organization's strategic goals.
But before diving into advanced and intelligent data technologies and their setup, it cannot be forgotten that project management is and will remain a people-centric discipline.
Hence, this book explores the cultural and behavioral aspects that are crucial for data and analytics to unleash their capabilities for improved project delivery performance.
The aim of this book is to serve as a guide to prepare the ground and enable data-informed practices for a true evidence-based project delivery discipline.
The book is available both as ebook and paperback.

Are you transforming your project management practice to become data-driven or data-informed? You may want to consider some common pitfalls as they easily can get overlooked when transitioning.
Data, analytics, and intelligent technology are making their way into the project management space, to ensure improved project performance and outcomes. And to make this work, there is naturally a lot of focus on the more technical aspects, such as data sourcing, tools and technology to use, data quality, etc.
While those aspects are certainly very important and require a well-drafted strategy, one easily could overlook the less technical, more behaviorally driven elements for such a transformation to succeed.
Defining a compelling and sound purpose to engage and guide is, therefore, one crucial piece for a successful transformation journey.
Still good to remember...

There is an increasing hype around data-driven predictions and decision-making.
But data itself will not provide insights.
Data can guide us to ask the right questions, which leads to insights.
Asking the right questions is the tricky part here and requires the ability of data sensemaking.
IT projects continue to be a significant challenge.
Frequent overruns despite many trainings, endless certifications, and agile methods.
What is the real problem?
While training initiatives as such aren't wrong, one needs to remember that project management is an evolutionary construct that requires an adaptive capacity, it requires frequent learning, adjustment, and rethinking of existing approaches.
But training for tools and basic techniques will certainly not improve things. PMs rather need to get the ability to adapt to new realities, unlearn and relearn, ask the right questions, and make use of changing environments and the opportunities therein.

Are you a victim of bu****it in your organizational decision-making?
In today's data-driven world and the resulting increase of "fake news" aka bu****it, your organizational decision-making processes could easily become affected as well.
Today's modern organizations want to become truly data-driven and take advantage of the explosive growth of data and the opportunities it holds.
But in today's data hype, it is important to remember that data also holds a lot of noise which, if not properly treated, could mislead and distract, in other words, noise could turn into bu****it and eventually poison decision-making processes.
To avoid such a scenario, getting up to speed with data literacy skills is key, and that applies not only to the IT department.
If you want to learn more about how I could help you to avoid getting bu****itted, please message me.

Berlin's new airport finally opens: A story of failure and embarrassment
Berlin's new airport finally opens: A story of failure and embarrassment | DW | 31.10.2020 Conception to operation has taken 30 years, with seven missed opening dates — rather than a symbol of a revitalized German capital, the new airport has been one of Germany's most glaring public scandals in recent memory.
An all-time classic of an epic project failure - caused by planning fallacy and massively flawed decision-making based on numerous biases and the lack of information and learning.
A perfect example that demonstrates how urgent it is to innovate the project management practice with an analytics and data-driven approach towards truly data-informed decision-making in projects.

Delivered this week a session about AI-Powered Project Management for THE GIG ECONOMY Webinar Series, organized by Project Management Institute Champlain Valley.
Interesting insights from live surveys, incl. perceptions from the audience regarding potential challenges for a transition to a data-driven approach: Cost and time seem to play a significant role which means that a lot still needs to be done to provide awareness of the current project delivery challenges, and the clear benefits that a data-driven and AI-supported project delivery approach would provide.
Clearly, such transition is not a quick and easy one and it will require time and investment but organization leaders must understand the ROI of such an approach as it will provide a significant increase in project delivery effectiveness and efficiency and therefore also financial savings.
Change is inevitable and the traditional approach to project delivery is simply outdated and clearly not sustainable in today’s digitalized and data-driven world.
