Fat Harvesting for Facial Rejuvenation

For our fat grafting treatments aimed at facial rejuvenation, we ideally harvest fat from areas closer to the face, such as beneath the chin. However, common donor sites also include the abdomen, thighs (medial, lateral, and anterior), buttocks, or hips.

For a nanofat transfer, only 10-20 ml of nanofat is sufficient. Even when we combine nanofat transfer with lipofilling, we don’t need large quantities. This is why a manual fat harvesting technique under low negative pressure is ideal – it’s minimally invasive and gentle.

Having grown up in a wine region in beautiful Bulgaria, where the vines were considered golden, this parallel resonates deeply with me. Just like winemaking, which requires patience and skill, working with adipose tissue is an art that demands expertise and care.

Microfat vs. Nanofat

Thank you for your interest in my daily stories. I was delighted to see so many visits and likes over the past two days🌟

In the stories, I showed the nice results of a combination of microfat and nanofat transfers that I performed 1.5 years ago. The natural regeneration enabled by these treatments is simply fascinating.

What is the difference between microfat and nanofat?

Microfat: Typically particle size < 1.2 mm, ideal for treating specific areas of the face and hands to build volume and smooth out deeper lines.
Nanofat: Finer particle size < 0.4 - 0.6mm, contains no vital fat cells, but is rich in regenerative cells. It is used for very fine, superficial skin layers and is excellent for skin rejuvenation through mesotherapy, especially in sensitive areas such as around the eyes and mouth.

Both techniques use the autologous fat to achieve natural, long-lasting aesthetic improvements tailored to the individual needs of the patients.

Regenerative aesthetic treatments are on the rise.

Yesterday at the FACE Conference in London, which I attended with my team, this topic was discussed extensively. Exosomes, in particular, are increasingly coming into the spotlight. However, randomized studies are still lacking, and there are reports of potential oncogenic risks.

In contrast, the safety of nanofat transfer, a key focus in our practice, is well-documented. Studies confirm that no significant complications occur, apart from temporary redness at the injection site. Unlike macrofat and microfat, nanofat is not associated with infections, granulomas, or fat cysts.

To determine which injection method for nanofat should be preferred to ensure maximum efficacy and safety, we will be conducting a clinical study.
