World Digestive Health Day: Early Diagnosis of Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers

May 29 is World Digestive Health Day. First launched in 2004, World Digestive Health Day has been a long-running campaign, organized by the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO) and WGO Foundation. World Digestive Health Day aims to raise awareness and provide resources and tools for gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.

For this year of WDHD, let us emphasize the early diagnosis of gastrointestinal (GI) cancers. Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide, and cancers of the oesophagus, stomach and bowel – collectively known as GI cancer – are amongst the most common cancers globally.

Pneumonia is a form of acute respiratory infection that affects the lungs. Any infection causing an inflammatory response in the lung is referred to as pneumonia.
Though the majority of pneumonia is caused by bacterial infections, viral infections like influenza or COVID 19 virus can also affect the lungs and can cause serious inflammatory damage to them as evidenced in the ongoing pandemic.

Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) produce quick result in less than approximately 15 minutes and are simple to perform. Thus, RDTs may be used to help with diagnostic and treatment decisions for patients in clinical settings.

"World Influenza Day" was established on November 1, 2018 to promote the global strengthening of influenza prevention and control.

Seasonal influenza is an acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses which circulate in all parts of the world. Influenza virus mainly affects the nose, throat, bronchi and, occasionally, lungs. The virus is transmitted easily from person to person via droplets and small particles produced when infected people cough or sneeze. Influenza tends to spread rapidly in seasonal epidemics.

Rapid influenza diagnostic tests (RIDTs) are immunoassays that can identify the presence of influenza A and B viral nucleoprotein antigens in respiratory specimens, and display the result in a qualitative way. As a partner of IVD experts, InTec has launched Rapid Flu A/B Test, which can be used to help with diagnostic and treatment decisions for patients in clinical settings and can be useful to identify influenza virus infection.
