The female Blue Dacnis is a real beauty!
Gray-headed Chachalaca.
Male Blue Dacnis.
A toucan we had been seen back in late 2023 was absent for little a while, he is back and apparently doing ok despite its disability
This Sicklebill has just been way too cooperative, so why not another picture?.
Helmet-headed Lizard.
Stripe-throated Hermit at it’s nest! are a subfamily of the hummingbirds and they differ from “true” hummers in several aspects, such as feeding patterns, breeding behaviors and nesting. Here you can see how different their nest is compared to other hummingbird species.
Female Acorn Woodpecker.
This is an amazing time to photograph the emblematic White-tipped Sicklebill! Gonzo (as we call him) is quite tolerant and has chosen and near by perch!!
Tanaemyrmex sp. a genus of ants closely related to the genus Camponotus.
Notice the long antenae!
White-tipped Sicklebill (Gonzo).

Central American Boa.
Army ant (Eciton birchellii). Carrying ant larvae.
(Eriophora fuliginea). Tropical Orb-weaver AKA red and black Orb weaver.
This has got to be my favorite genus of spiders, E R I O P H O R . These beauties are known for building a hide right above their webs where they conceal away from predators.
Spotted Orb-weaver (Eriophora nephiloides).
White-throated Crake.
Found this beautiful Jumping spider (Lyssomanes sp.) at home. These little guys can be just about anywhere and most are overlooked.
Collared Peccary. A wild boar that is often found on small packs and its considered a seed predator on the forest, an interesting fact:
“The rainforest yam (Dioscorea) contains diosgenin, which is a type of pig progesterone, or birth control for peccaries. If peccaries eat this yam, they stop having young, and the yam eaters die out. It is a natural form of selective peccary birth control that helps the yam survive in a forest full of peccaries). — (Henderson. C. 2010. Mammals, Amphibians, and Reptiles of Costa Rica. Page 71.)
Central American Squirrel Monkey.
White-throated Crake.
A hard bird to get but with the right place and the right help you can get cool images of this rather elusive bird. Kuddos to for his genious craft when it comes to hard-to get species.
Leaf-mimicking Bug (Mimetica sp.)
Unidentified Caterpillar. 🐛
Photographed with ef100mm plus Raynox 250 with the for lighting.
⚙️ ISO250 — f13 — 1/200s
