This park will include the salt pans of Jan Kok and the former plantations of Rif St. Marie, Jan Kok and Hermanus. [ROYAL HONOURS] Mr. Rolf Bak, emeritus professor doctor, was honored during the annual 'decoration rain' last weekend at the town hall of Texel for his extraordinary contributions to marine biology. Mr. Bak has had an impressive career characterized by his dedication to scientific research and education.

From 1970 to 1984, Mr. Bak played a crucial role as a Marine Biologist and deputy director at Carmabi. Here, he laid the foundations for quantitative coral reef research in the Netherlands, resulting in over 24 scientific publications and recognition from the government of Curaçao with the Colá Debrotprijs in 1989.

His pioneering efforts transformed Carmabi into a leading center for coral reef research, where his influence continues to thrive. Both the current director of Carmabi, Manfred van Veghel, and the scientific director, Mark Vermeij, are Rolf Bak's doctoral students.

Every year, Carmabi hosts dozens of scientists from the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research and the University of Amsterdam, primarily inspired by the research Rolf Bak has inspired for over 50 years at Carmabi.
