The Technology Committee of the Cyprus Bar Association organized an online seminar on "Artificial Intelligence in the Legal Profession," which took place on Thursday, October 17, 2024.

One of the speakers was our firm's lawyer, Andreas Pindarou, who presented during the Review of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 on Artificial Intelligence.

📖 ΑΡΘΡΟ 11Α: ΑΝΑΓΚΑΣΤΙΚΗ ΑΠΟΚΤΗΣΗ ΔΙΚΑΙΩΜΑΤΟΣ ΔΙΑΒΑΣΗΣ

Το άρθρο 11Α του περί Ακίνητης Ιδιοκτησίας Νόμου, Κεφ. 224, καθορίζει τις διαδικασίες που πρέπει να ακολουθούνται για την απόκτηση διόδου σε δύο συγκεκριμένες περιπτώσεις. Η πρώτη περίπτωση αφορά ακίνητα που είναι περίκλειστα, δηλαδή δεν έχουν πρόσβαση σε δρόμο ή άλλη οδό, και η δεύτερη περίπτωση αφορά ακίνητα των οποίων η υφιστάμενη δίοδος κρίνεται ανεπαρκής για τις ανάγκες χρήσης, ανάπτυξης και εκμετάλλευσής τους.

In Cyprus animal protection is governed by several laws that ensure the prevention of the cruelty and regulate the treatment and welfare of domestic animals and wildlife. The cornerstone of the legal framework for animal protection in Cyrus is the Protection and Welfare of Animals Law of 1994 (Law No. 46 (I)/1994) which, among with other laws, aims to safeguard the welfare of the animals by establishing standards for their treatment and prohibitions of cruelty and abuse while the penalties for the offenders are strict.

Our law firm attended ‘The Cyprus Arbitration & Mediation Forum (CAMF)’, held on September 23, 2024, at the Cyprus Hilton, Nicosia, through our lawyer Kyriaki Dimitriou.

🔹The Role:
The Compliance Officer will handle the Compliance Department in ensuring that the firm adheres to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional to gain valuable experience in a supportive and professional environment.

🔹 Main Responsibilities:
- Conducting the Client on-boarding process by supporting Client Due Diligence (CDD) and Know Your Client (KYC) procedures, ensuring compliance with AML regulations.
- Conducting preliminary client background checks and screenings.
- Supporting the transaction monitoring process, including reviewing client transactions and maintaining accurate records.
- AML/Risk Assessment by using our software
- Arranging the maintenance and organisation of compliance records, both electronic and physical.
- Helping to ensure that all compliance registers are up-to-date and accurate.
- Collaborating with other departments to address compliance-related queries and issues.
- Keeping abreast of changes in regulatory requirements and assisting with the implementation of new compliance processes.

🔹 What We Are Looking For:
- A University Degree in Law, Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Up to 2 years of experience in compliance, AML, or a related field
- CySEC Advanced Certificate and/or CySEC AML Certificate
- Familiarity with the legal and regulatory framework governing the financial services and legal sectors.
- Strong command of both Greek and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Knowledge of DAC6 and Transfer Pricing requirements.
- Highly organised, with an eye for detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn and grow in the compliance field.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to work well within a team.
