We listen to our clients and guide them through the building of their dreams. L&M has completed dozens of commercial buildings.

The architectural firm “Lazarou – Michael, Partners Architects” was founded in 1996 by the architects Lazarou Lazaros and Michail Michalis. Since then, the firm has grown rapidly and it has incorporated the characteristics that the senior partners had envisioned back in 1996. The firm has also come closer to the long term strategic goal that was set from the very beginning. That is to establish it

“Without an architecture of our own we have no soul of our own civilization”. - Rafaela Charalamboudi

Rafaela Charalamboudi is an architect at LM Architects. She graduated from the University of Patras in 2016 with a Master of Architecture (M. Arch). Since childhood, she has expressed herself through the arts. As she grew older, she became intrigued by the idea that architecture combines art, creativity, and science but, more importantly, it can change the way people live and feel.

Originally from Cyprus and inspired by the works of the Japanese architect Tadao Ando and the architecture of Mies van der Rohe, Rafaela Charalamboudi deeply believes that an architect should be capable of solving in the most possible creative way any technical problem that may arise during the design process.

In our studio, Rafaela works with the aim of designing architecture with a soul, where spaces enrich the lives of people, giving them their own roots and identities.
One of the most interesting projects she has worked on at .architects was the design of the Latchi Hotel – Restaurant in Latchi, in the northwestern part of Cyprus.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 | 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐨 | Our design proposal aims to “extend” social life from the public area into the realm of offices, demonstrating how contemporary architecture can significantly contribute to the quality of work and social life in the cities we inhabit.

We have conceptually divided the area into three distinct zones that house specific functions: an “open-air” green area for public use and two office blocks on either side.

These two buildings are developed on four floors and feature spacious areas, sometimes double-height, hosting lobbies, shops, and office spaces. The large glass surfaces ensure optimal lighting of the interior spaces based on the functions they accommodate.

The design of the two buildings and their mutual positioning highlight the “open-air” green area as a canyon where users can enjoy a relaxing moment in the shade of trees, socialize before a work meeting, or simply pause momentarily before continuing with their activities.

This design project has provided us with the opportunity to study a fluid, dynamic, and flexible office complex with a public connection at its core, linking to the urban environment and the social life of those living and working nearby.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 | 𝐋𝐨𝐠𝐨 | What guidelines should be taken into account in the design of a complex for office and commercial use in today's cities?

This was one of our initial inquiries as we embarked on developing the design for this complex to be built in the center of Limassol.

Urban fabric characteristics, orientations, road network, and urban traffic are just some of the aspects we examined to define the criteria and guidelines upon which to shape these new offices.

In Limassol, characterized by exponential urban growth and old office and commercial buildings that sometimes do not ensure easy access for users, it becomes even more crucial to scrutinize urban issues and the distribution of outdoor and access spaces along with the design of the buildings themselves.

We aimed to create a functional, dynamic, and luminous complex, but above all, a complex that engages with urban space and functional aspects, including traffic, access, and usage.

With two underground parking levels, ramps for both vehicles and pedestrians, covered walkways for access, and a ground-level square, the Logo complex aspires to be an example of how architectural design and urban fabric must necessarily evolve together to ensure the quality of social and commercial life within the cities we inhabit.

“Architecture is the art of giving life to a dead space. Providing an empty area with a meaningful purpose to help people live in improved conditions with the application of contemporary and sustainable methodologies”. - Sotiris Menelaou

Sotiris is an Architect at our studio, graduated in 2017 with a Master of Architecture from the Leicester School of Architecture.

“Since I remember my self, I have been interested in any kind of creative processes while I have always been attracted to stunning pieces of architectural structures. Hence my progression into the sector of architecture was a natural process which facilitated my desire to work on a creative field such as architecture”, says Sotiris Menelaou.

From Cyprus and inspired/fascinated by the works of Alvaro Siza and Louis Khan, he considers creativity and communication as the most fundamental skills that an architect should have since a good architect is entitled to fulfill a plethora of artistic and critical designs in a team environment.

The most interesting project he worked on at .architects was the design of a residential building in Germasogia.

| 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 𝐀𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 | The Columbia Apartments complex is developed on five floors above ground. On the ground floor, there is a swimming pool, the entrance hall with the stairwell and elevator, the driveway for access to covered parking, and storage rooms; while the apartments are on the four upper floors. Each floor is divided into three or four room apartments with double or triple exposure.

The entire design is characterized by the harmonious interplay between white walls and surfaces painted in dark colours, which lend a dynamic character to the complex and, at the same time, highlight the structural elements of the building, such as pillars and floor slabs.

The project of the Columbia Apartments has been conceived to bring the structural aspects of the building “outside” and create a complex based on the alternation between volumes and spacious terraces that provide comfortable living spaces for family and social life even on the external areas.

The interplay of solid surfaces and open spaces allows sunlight to flow in the apartment, while the extensive overhangs of the structure on the floors ensure the right shade during the warm months and perfect protection during the winter period, characterized in Cyprus by recurring rains and strong wind.

Instead of creating a closed complex, we wanted to design a building that interacts with the external environment. In developing it, we placed great importance on the climatic peculiarities that distinguish the island of Cyprus, with the aim of ensuring the wellness of the inhabitants through a perfect synergy between architecture, climate, and the functionality of living spaces.

The sun reaches the interior spaces through the wide glazed windows that extend up to the ceiling of the living area. The choice of materials and finishing colours also makes this building complex an example of how architecture, engineering, and design contribute to defining the quality of contemporary living.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 | The design of these educational spaces has been conceived with the aim of creating dynamic and creative environments that foster human relationships, learning, and individual and collective growth.

The focus of our project places the needs and well-being of those engaging in activities within these spaces at the forefront. Through the creation of a dynamic and socially stimulating structure, this educational center aims to be an example of how architecture influences well-being and the way in which students and teachers experience school life and learning.

The large glass surfaces positioned at different heights relative to the floor ensure perfect natural lighting based on the orientation of the spaces and, at the same time, provide a comfortable environment for learning and carrying out activities within the spaces, promoting social interactions and relationships.

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 | “The city that functions is the one where people sleep, work, have fun, and, above all, go to school. I say ʻabove allʼ because, while one can choose not to visit a museum, everyone must go to school. Taking care of school buildings is not just a matter of construction; it's a social mending”. - Renzo Piano

As a gathering place where the growth and beginning of social life are celebrated, the school is certainly one of the key elements in the design of today's city. Our design is developed at ground level, where the architectural structure is seamlessly connected to the surrounding environment. The interior spaces feature large transparent surfaces, making the building a means to create connections, foster relationships, and promote culture.

The extensive outdoor spaces are characterized by the use of various types of flooring and garden areas to accommodate school activities, ensuring the flexibility of their functions. The connection between spaces is not through corridors but through spacious pathways designed to facilitate relationships.

A fundamental aspect of our design concerns energy efficiency and the choice of materials. Through our construction, we aim to convey a message of sustainability, even from an educational perspective. The use of lightweight structures and sustainable materials not only creates comfortable, earthquake-resistant, and safe environments but also a building complex where each child can grow individually and socially.

| 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 | “It is not the form that dictates the colour, but the colour that brings out the form,” said the German-born American painter Hans Hofmann.

Colour is an integral part of architecture, not a secondary aspect. It has a key impact on our perception of the spaces and a major influence on the feelings and emotions we unconsciously live.

The purpose of any architectural space should be taken in deep consideration when choosing the colour of the walls, ceilings, floors, and accessories like furniture, blinds or curtains.

Red is an exciting colour, it brings energy to our soul. Orange is milder, it accentuates the feeling of happiness and the will to socialize. Yellow stimulates attention.

The new MSC building will be in Ypsonas, one of the largest villages in the Limassol District of Cyprus, and will host all the offices of the shipping company, now divided in two separate buildings in Limassol.

The structure of the building is conceived with the upper floors resting on a line of columns, giving a nice impression of lightness. The elliptical opening surrounded by the upper floors has been conceived to bring natural light to the lower floor.

“Architecture could be described as the timeless process of man's installation in his environment, a creative process that, whether practiced by local amateur craftsmen or by great architects, has always been the art that gave material substance to the marriage of the place, human needs, form and function”. - Ioannis Theofanous

Ioannis Theofanous is a Junior Architect at LM Architects. He graduated from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) with a Diploma in Architecture Engineering.

For Ioannis, architecture combines all forms of creation and touches on issues of profound humanistic and engineering importance. He strongly believes that today’s architects have to be: “faithful to the momentous and culturally charged responsibility of architectural creation”.

His main inspirations are I. M. Pei and Renzo Piano, the most interesting project he worked on in our studio is the Makedonias Building.
